Also, for those with T-Mobile, the VUDU credit is back, for today anyway. I used it for Prince of Darkness since I've always been curious to see it. (I know, I know). Plenty of good $4.99 picks, I'm wondering if my Criterion disc will work (Disc to Digital) for Videodrome (it did for a couple of other Criterions).

Is Village of the Damned any good? I'm a big JC fan, but some like Prince of Darkness (until today) and Village of the Damned have eluded me. (And I even liked Ghosts of Mars)

I used my Criterion of Videodrome for disc to digital a couple months ago, so it should still work.

Also thanks to Mikael79, very appreciated. I'll save myself a few bucks in the process and not spend $4.99 in the sale.

Now...just to get my disc to digital working again (it was having issues with the blank screen like many others).

Check out the Free2D group on Google+. I just used it last night, and didn't have that issue, as it uses an old version of D2D. I just looked at their list of titles, and Videodrome is on it.

I am very familiar with the group and use Free2d when my existing disc is having trouble or I'm being lazy in my old age (my collection/man cave is upstairs). But alas, that's also where my VUDU is coming from too (V 2.15) and yet I'm having that same issue. I think I could fix it, but I need sometime to mess with it. *fingers crossed* for later this week.

Edit: Question...what version of Adobe AIR do you have? People have linked that to the issue at hand, and I'm sure it will come up later.

Nice list honestly, it could be a bunch of movies nobody has heard of...but it's not. A couple of others to mention include Assault on Precinct 13 (original) and Dead Zone (still my favorite Christopher Walken movie).

Seems like most of their selections are movies already on Tubi TV,Shout Factory and various other Ad supported Free Movie Channels on Roku. Definitely worth checking out though if the ad breaks are less intrusive then aps created by Adrise.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

My Sharp TV has the old user interface (which I still prefer) and it shows the "Movies on Us" section but there's no option to actually watch them. Went to my Oppo Blu-Ray player which has the new interface and each movie has a "Watch" option but you can still also pay to buy or rent them with no ads.

Started Species and it's playing in the usual HDX quality with 5.1 DD+ (which I've never seen on the free Roku channels). It started out with 2 promo spots for Vudu also in HDX quality- a relief from the often awful-quality ads many Roku channels have. The commercials have countdown timers onscreen, which if I were an advertiser I wouldn't like. I've seen Species many times, we'll see what happens when it's time for a commercial break.

Would be cool if there were a hack to insert this bumper at every commercial break:

The Vudu ads are much shorter and less intrusive than other ad-supported movie services. And the Vudu movies are much higher quality (HDX 1080p with DD+ 5.1 audio).

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Just caught a commercial break- it's as sudden as the Roku breaks are, with a loading graphic before each spot- this time it was two different ads for the new Magnificent Seven movie and one Vudu promo. Going back to the movie shows the cover picture as it usually does, the timeline display of course is onscreen for a few seconds when the movie comes back but you can hit Display on the remote to get rid of it sooner- a bit of dialogue was also cut off in the break but you can scan backwards and see the previous scene WITHOUT having to replay the commercials in between- you could likely let a movie play close to the end with ads, then skip back to the beginning and watch it with no interruptions. Will have to try that when I have time.

This page only shows around 200 of the available titles. For some reason, I can't find a page with the full list on their website.

But if you have a Roku, go to the Movies On Us page. Then click on the Announcing banner at the top of the page. That'll take you to the full list with over 2,000 titles. And you can filter them.

You can watch Koyaanisqatsi with commercials! If there were ever a movie that shouldn't have interruptions, that's it. Will have to see though if I can scan to the beginning and play it again without them though- this is also one movie I can never watch too many times.

Not the full list, but this page breaks them up in genres, and looking at each genre brings up a few hundred titles (with some overlaps):

Pretty cool, I tried out the free with ads option today with an hour long stand up comedy show. There were two short ads at the beginning and that was it. No additional ads during the hour and great HD quality, I like it!

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

It will be my mission to figure out how they place the commercial breaks, as when Hulu still had their free thing, you could see where the commercials were on the timeline and skip directly to them, watch them all and then go to the beginning and watch the whole show uninterrupted. Even on the web browser, Vudu doesn't show them on the timeline. I skipped around a few movies, checking some every 5 minutes and getting no commercials but getting a couple on others. Once you've viewed a break, it doesn't stop for that break again until you've either played the movie to the very end or watched a different one- I'm willing to watch commercials if I'm not paying for something, but would rather watch them all at once before the movie and then watch that uninterrupted. Seems the easiest way to do this would be to skip right to them, a way to cheat this would be to just start the movie and go off and do something else until the last break has played and then skip back to the beginning, but if you forget and let it play to the end then you'll be back at square one.

Playing Wayne's World 2 right now on both the laptop and Roku- started the laptop first, when I started the movie on the Roku it played a commercial break first but then started the movie at the point it was on the computer, then I had it go back to the beginning. Computer played a break at about 12 minutes- I had the sound muted on that but it came on when the break started. Few minutes later the Roku stopped for a break at the same point, so they do seem to have them set at specific parts in each movie. Might let this play to the end and then see what happens when I skip to 12 minutes in later. (I remember the first break in Species not coming up until 24 minutes.)

And seeing the Roku come back, it did resume the movie a few seconds before it cut to commercial break (it resumes when Wayne has the first dream about the "weird naked indian") so at least sometimes it won't skip over even one second of the movie if you do watch it with breaks the way you're supposed to- that's my main reason for wanting to get around the interruptions.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Well, it looks like it might not be possible to watch these commercial-free as I thought- it seems to only bypass the most recent break that you watched. I restarted Wayne's World 2 from the beginning and watched all of it- I was able to not have the break play before the movie started again, but all the other breaks were there. It generally didn't cut out any of the movie between breaks, and in one instance where I thought it did the "Replay" button on the Roku remote backed it up just enough to see the last few seconds before the last break. I previously checked it on my Oppo Blu-Ray player which doesn't have that button, so I would have to manually scan back using that.

Looks like the family titles are including Walmart spots for Halloween and Christmas- let's see if they manage to replace those after those holidays are over. Commercials for Jet.com (which Walmart recently bought) are in 5.1, though they don't make much use of it.

When I click on that link I get a 404 error (I'm already signed in) :(

Edit: nevermind. It works when I manually go to "Redeem Movie Credits" and enter the code there.

Don't click that link. Just go in how you normally would. Use a separate window.
