You can't "fucking sue", there was tons of legalese in the user agreement which you probably didn't read which states that they can do whatever they want and don't owe you shit.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I’m not drafting any lawsuits yet. It’d be a huge black eye for the whole digital industry if a major provider just disappeared, taking a lot of people’s purchases with it. Yes, some services have disappeared, but I don’t think they had nearly the reach that Vudu has now. It’d be in everyone’s best interest to find a buyer who could maintain the service.

I would still have concerns from Walmart not thinking it’s a viable business model, though.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Why can you rent an older movie on Vudu, but not purchase? For example: T2: Extended can only be rented. And you can flat out buy on Amazon...

I think the issue stems that Walmart is concerned about the very stiff competition from Disney + and HBO Max and others where you can stream whatever movies you want for the low monthly subscription price vs. needing to purchase titles on an a la carte basis. Netflix has been doing this for awhile, but now we have 2 services coming that are sanctioned by major studios and have more new content and recent theatrical releases.

I mean if you can watch 20 relatively new WB movies on HBO Max next Spring in a month for your subscription price of $15 vs. paying for each title separately, that may be much more appealing to some consumers. Same goes for Disney +

For me personally, I don't want to buy every movie I want to see via VOD. And I can't afford to pay for $5, $6 rentals all the time.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I've found with my schedule that paying per title works a lot better than paying for a subscription that I may not have time to watch enough of (plus Netflix is worthless to me now with their intrusive interface.) The price of rentals should drop a bit though, I would rent more often if they were $3 or so. Vudu used to have a daily 99 cent rental and I watched a lot of those, but they stopped that. $6 for a new release is too much, would rather buy it on disc for $20 or less.

Disc to Digital and Mobile to Digital no longer work on FOX titles as of 11-01-2019. While this is likely due to Disney's ownership, it also may have some to do with UV's shutdown and now that VUDU is up for sale.

Sucks about Fox, though my guess is that itís Disney and not the other stuff if other studios arenít affected. That reminds me that the end of the year is coming up, and I should redeem more D2Ds just in case I might bump up against the annual quota someday,

Yeah, thatís basically what I said earlier, that VUDU is running up against cheap streaming services backed by very deep pockets, and their free selections are trying to counter that.

Itís an interesting question about rentals. If weíre all paying for 3-4 subscription services, are we going to want to pay for individual rentals? Or will we just sit back and hope they hit one of our services? I have no desire to pay $6 for a digital rental, but I still have Netflix discs for my rentals, and from time to time Iíve wondered if itíd be more cost-effective to just rent them a la carte. I like how it gives me more selection than my subscriptions, but it has its own issues with availability windows, etc.

Just got an email stating that Disc-To-Digital will no longer be supported after Dec 31st, but that Mobile Disc-to-digital will.

Which means if you have a large collection and want to convert it you only have until Dec 31 for unlimited conversions. Otherwise you will only be able to convert 100 per year with the mobile app.

So stupid. Why? So my disc burner reader or whatever I have is useless. Thankfully I did most my collection already, but never got mobile to work. Oh well.

The cancellation of this program does not destroy our blu ray drives. They will still work. You can still use them.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I'm guessing (hoping?) they did this because D2D was too much work for them (given how it had issues for years) and md2d is a lot less, rather than because of the possibility it's getting sold. However, it does mean that downloading movies to watch on the PC will no longer be an option, since the same tool for D2D also allows that.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I never got around to buying a BD drive for the purpose I’d D2D, but I thought about it. For a while I was buying those Warner three-packs, and while the UPCs didn’t work for D2D, I expected that the discs themselves were the same as the individually packaged ones and would. But I’m not going to bother now.

Also a reminder that if you did the free rental coupon a few weeks ago and never got around to watching your selection, you probably should. Mine has three days left.
