Amazon's HD is 720p on all devices except for the latest Kindle Fire. Vudu's HDX is 1080p.

I think the other consideration is that Amazon is here to stay for the conceivable future. If you own it on Amazon, you'll be able to access it in ten years. VUDU is backed by Walmart but Walmart has pulled the plug on digital services before when they weren't successful.

But Amazon's also the one that will shut off your account and access to ALL your digital content if you return too many items.

Thanks TBD! :)

Perhaps, but Vudu is backlinked to UV. UV is backed by five of the Big Six studios (Sony, Universal, Paramount, Warner and Fox) and by a growing list of the better Minor studios (DreamWorks, Lionsgate, MGM, Relativity and Anchor Bay as of January) plus HBO and the BBC. I don't think UV is going away any time soon, and even if WalMart were to pull the Vudu plug ten years from now, your UV library will still be on Target Ticket, Flixter, M-Go, CinemaNow and whatever other new platforms that may appear between now and then.

You can download and backup material from Vudu so at the very least you'd have a copy on hand of some sort. Plus the UV backing.

UV is VUDU for all intent and purposes. The other UV providers are vastly inferior options from a customer's point of view. I don't think UV is going away but it's a fragile digital ecosystem. I don't worry at night that Apple or Amazon pull the plug. Walmart's business strategy in this space is much more tenuous, I would have preferred a company such as Netflix getting the VUDU service.

I agree. The other UV services are junk. And I'm concerned about Wal-Mart's commitment to VUDU. That hasn't stopped me from spending thousands of dollars building my UV collection. But I'm always worried that Wal-Mart will decide VUDU isn't worth the trouble. And without VUDU, UV is as good as dead.

The only reason I even know what Vudu is is because I started redeeming my UV copies. I choose not to buy from them as I'd rather not support Walmart, but they are pretty much the only proper streaming service which offers what Blu can give you too as far as I can tell. Can't imagine they'll go anywhere anytime soon.

I got $4 in credits because of codes redeemed and rented Superman Returns, Gran Torino, Evolution, and Don Jon, and then paid a buck for Kick-Ass 2. Their one dollar rentals are awesome.

I love VUDU. About 1200 movies on there now. I am a VUDU whore.

hanshotfirst1138 03-28-14 08:24 AM

HDX frequently has buffering trouble for me, and I can't get Netflix above 720p. 1080p appears to be too big a load for my wifi to handle.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

After about 200+ in-home disc-to-digital conversions, I finally had to bite the bullet and go into a Walmart today to get a few done that wouldn't recognize.

It wasn't nearly as bad as some of the horror stories I'd read online, but the clerk clearly didn't feel comfortable with the process. Didn't bother to even look at my discs, which is good, because one of them was actually a DVD that I had marked as BD.
