I don't blame them, and the additional price seems reasonable. My biggest concern would be that it will just continue to rise.

Then again, it also indicates that they're okay with this, which could save me money. I currently share with my youngest son, while my oldest has his own account. If they allow up to two additional households, my oldest and I could split it. (My youngest is a starving student)

At $20 per month, this is getting ridiculous. Cable looks like a bargain now.

What I'm curious about is the verification process. I pay for a separate account for my two nieces. So once the older one leaves for college, she'll need her own?

I’m surprised this hasn’t happened already. Wonder if the other streaming platforms will follow suit.

Unlike the forced addition of cable channels you don't need, no one is forcing you to subscribe to every streaming platform. Pick 3 or 4 and just go with it. It's more content than you have time to watch anyway.

Exactly. This is similar to the C-band satellite old days when you could pick and choose which channels that you wanted a la carte from different providers. Enjoy it while it lasts.

We can do that with cable channels, but of course they're all priced so that it's much cheaper to pay for a package.

When you have a big household you need more than just 3 or 4 options. Also, the elderly are pretty specific about which shows they watch and not everything is on the same platform.

We're still way better off now than cable days, and if anything this brings us closer to the ala carte model that people had been begging for (without realizing how much it would cost). I mean everything is on demand now. Binge something, cancel, subscribe to a new service and binge something else. Nobody really needs more than 3 or 4 streaming options at a time, they're just used to having so many options. The price of all these services are going to rise as they get established too, it's not going to get any cheaper.

From a subscriber standpoint, if lots of people leave due to this, maybe that shows Netflix that their pricing isn't actually in line with the value people derive from it, if so many people only subscribe if they can pool their resources. Which is actually better for those who don't share as well.

Have you tried the free services like Tubi or Pluto? Tons of variety and the commercial breaks are actually very reasonable.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

If you're looking for something to watch, check out these two Korean films. I watched them both this week and really enjoyed them.

The Call - A twisty time travel thriller. Don't watch the trailer. It spoils the movie.

The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure - A fun, popcorn action/adventure flick. Some of the jokes are dumb. But there were parts where I laughed my ass off. You don't have to watch the first one. This is a sequel in name only.

I watched the Call and you're so right. It was very good and didn't go where I thought it was going.

If you're looking for something to watch, and you like twisty mystery thrillers, check out Forgotten (2017). Korea makes some of the best suspense movies.

Always weird when something like this happens with an older movie. It shows as #5 for me.

Every time this thread is bumped, I have come to automatically assume that there has been another price increase.... I'm glad to see that this isn't the case.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

I just watched The Call last night for the first time. I guess I'd avoided it because of bad reviews when it came out. But it's been in the Netflix Top 10 all week. So I gave it a shot, and it wasn't too bad.

Seems like there's always some random old movie in the Top 10.

I guess it's getting too expensive for a lot of people.

Password sharing crackdown in 3....2....1

Let's be honest, how many people that are sharing are going to sign up? How many will they lose when people have to pony up for this in their own? They should just create some sort of family plan, charge $25 for it and allow like 2-3 passwords to be used. This generates more revenue and likely covers anyone who jumps ship.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

At this point, Netflix has pretty plateaued with subscriptions. I don't think they will be able to attract many new subscribers now. I just don't think it's feasible for many of these streamers to keep growing in subscriptions. Either people are completely tapped out paying for more or they need to cut back on their entertainment expenses.

I'd be curious to see what happens when Stranger Things 4 drops. They may recover those subs.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

Netflix can drop like 200 new shows and movies per month and I’m just speculating, but I think maybe less than 10% get watched or any kind of attention.
