Kingdom was an MMA series. It starred Frank Grillo. Like I said, it was a DirecTV exclusive show, so pretty much no one watched it.

Pokémon Journeys: The Series episodes are to be added every 3 months (probably ~12 episodes). It's just U.S. though (Canada for example gets the newest season via Teletoon). Netflix have been adding more Pokémon content since last year. Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back - Evolution is noted as a Netflix Film (launched Feb 27).

Right, they got Mewtwo Strikes Back and the delayed episodes of both Sun and Moon series, I'm just surprised Disney XD didn't snap them up again and that there's no way to watch the show on non streaming TV. I guess that also shows just how far Netflix has come.

Maybe Disney XD wasn't as interested in the property as before? Or Netflix just paid more than everyone else?

Canadians will finally be able to watch the majority of the Studio Ghibli movies. I think it’s only missing Grave of the Fireflies in that release schedule.

Never Have I Ever was renewed for a second season. I enjoyed the show so this is good news. For folks that forgot about this show, it is loosely based on the experiences of Mindy Kaling's childhood.

Anyone watching “Teenage Bounty Hunters” on Netflix?

Fraternal twin sisters accidentally become bounty hunters.

10-episode season. 45-minute dramedy series. It’s actually really funny, with some great acting. Nice sleeper hit.

I have some vacation time coming soon. I'll have to watch some of it while I'm off.

Wife and I are 4 episodes in. It’s not anything I would have chosen to watch myself, but I agree that it’s pretty good. The first episode didn’t do much for me (wife said she’d read it was like a cross btwn Buffy and Veronica Mars so I stupidly kept expecting vampires or some supernatural element) but each episode has been an improvement so far.

Yeah, no one needs this. Bad move to even support and fund something like this. I’m glad I don’t pay for Netflix right now. I’m not missing anything by not having it anymore.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

The weirdest part of the Cuties thing is that according to reviews and comments from people who have seen the movie, it is a coming of age drama that is critical of the sexualization of minors by the entertainment industry. The movie won multiple awards on the festival circuit and back in its native country of France.

So Netflix, when given this foreign coming of age movie about girls trying to find themselves through dance and discovering the dangers of being exploited, made a conscious decision to create promotional material that marketed the movie by sexualizing minors. I really have no idea what they were thinking.

I hear they automatically change your icon to a Chris Hansen gif if you click on that thumbnail to watch the movie. No judgements, though.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

Netflix shat the bed when it came to using the promotional image they went with vs some of the other promo material out there that is less skeevy to look at, but otherwise as Bob notes it is supposed to be a quality film and I actually look forward to watching (it releases on the 9th, my Birthday). Also, glad someone mentioned Teenage Bounty Hunters...a show where each episode just improves on the last one, I think I have 3 eps to go before I finish the season.

I started it on Thursday and I'm three episodes in. I'm loving it so far.

Netflix Price Hike Is “Probable” Soon, But It Won’t Slow Company’s Roll, Analyst Says

Netflix is likely to raise subscription prices in North America or Europe soon, but it won’t likely suffer major backlash, in the view of one Wall Street analyst.

Alex Giaimo of Jefferies pointed to a shift in tone between remarks from management on the first-quarter earnings call in April to the second-quarter call in July.

“After a change in language regarding pricing on the (second-quarter) call, we believe a potential hike is probable in the near to midterm,” Giaimo wrote in a note to clients. “In Q1, Netflix said that they were ‘not even thinking about price increases,’ while the Q2 language was more open-ended.”

An increase of $1 to $2 a month in North America or Europe could generate $500 million to $1 billion in fiscal 2021 revenue, Giaimo said. Giaimo sees an increase of $1 to $2 a month in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) as “most likely,” estimating that it would add “an incremental $700 million to 2021 revenue.”

Giaimo reiterated his “overweight” rating on Netflix shares, boosting his 12-month price target to $570 from $550. While shares have risen almost 50% in 2020 to date, they have drifted down over the past month. On Monday, they were down about 1% at around $479, on light trading volume.

Netflix will report third-quarter earnings on October 20. The company has thrived during COVID-19, adding about 26 million global subscribers in the first half of the year to reach a total of 193 million. The streaming giant has fended off competition from a handful of multi-billion-dollar services coming to market over the past year, including Disney+, Apple TV+ and HBO Max.

Prices in the 200-plus countries where Netflix operates are constantly in flux. U.S. subscribers saw their last increase in May 2019, the fourth price hike since 2010, when the most popular plan went from $11 a month to $13. While the hikes invariably cause some subscribers to bail, the company’s momentum has continued in terms of subscriber trends and the company’s stock price.

Subscriber growth has flattened in the U.S. but is still on a growth curve elsewhere. “We have confidence that Netflix can raise prices in international markets given its deepening content library and outsized consumer value proposition,” Giaimo wrote.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

A $2 increase would make it almost $20/month after tax. That's more than it's worth to me. I've already been thinking about cancelling and just resubscribing one month at a time to binge watch stuff.

I bailed when Disney+ rolled out and offered 4K for no additional charge. 4K tier? Nope. That'll probably hike the price for that tier even more.

It's less than one meal through DoorDash, so I'll keep it.
