Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

Terrible timing, but that leaves just enough time for people to binge-watch all the seasons in real time before April 1!

Wonder why they're dropping it. Losing the license? Fox upping the price?

Amazon has been signing exclusive deals for several tv shows lately.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

It's probably because it's coming back and Fox anticipates a shot at renewed interest/sales.

I think they knew 24 would be popular but the traction for this mini-series has been huge.

And while Amazon has been signing deals, most are written about well in advance (ie: The Dome, the NBC deal, etc; ) so I don't think that this is part of that.

Well, that sucks for my Mom. She just started rewatching 24 from the beginning a week or two ago. I watched the first episode with her when I was over at her house. It was really odd seeing Jack Bauer as the domestic family man.

If you put it in your watchlist at Amazon, it will show the expiration date there, in your watchlist (if there is an expiration date).

Netflix streaming speeds on Comcast jump 65 percent after controversial deal

Netflix customers on Comcast are already seeing the benefits of a controversial pact between the streaming service and cable provider. Comcast jumped five spots in Netflix's ranking of ISP performance for the month of March. It now sits in fifth place, delivering an average streaming speed of 2.5Mbps — up from the pitiful 1.15Mbps average Comcast delivered to Netflix subscribers in January.

"This month’s rankings are a great illustration of how performance can improve when ISPs work to connect directly to Netflix," said Netflix. It's also a great illustration of what happens when Netflix pays off cable providers to speed things up: Comcast now charts above Verizon FiOS and even Time Warner Cable, the very company it's hoping to snatch up in the coming months.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

I have Comcast and have noticed no change in speed. Then again, I never really had an issue with freezing or poor quality, but movies/series still seem to take the same about of time to load.

Is there anyway that you can watch Netflix w/o interruption ? I always get the continue question after watching a couple of shows. My computer is in the other room and I watch Netflix on my HD tv(w/25 ft HDMI cable).

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

Naw, unlike cable continued streaming actually eats up resources so they want to know you're watching it. Plus data caps. So at this time there is no way to actually get rid of that function.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

Yeah, that is annoying. It's the "time-out" function. Pandora has a similar thing, too...

I'm not sure but maybe hitting pause at some point before the third ep might bypass it.

For the last 2 days, I cannot connect to Netlflix via Oppo BDP-93. Definitely there is a connection, because I just played a few VUDU 2min previews and watched a few YouTube videos via the Oppo.

Eventually, $7.99 a month is going to be too much.

$7.99 is too much if it doesn't work for you (and cheap if it does, because I don't see it staying that low for much longer). Alas I haven't had a playback issue like that in years.

Sucks that the BDP-93 has kind of gimped Netflix access in general.

I canceled my membership with Netflix. Fuck this "not connected" crap. I'll buy my movies and watch them at my convenience. And they say streaming is the future. Yeah ok.

I've never had a single problem with Netflix. I know of no one else who has. It sounds like it was on your end.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

Netflix is in a terrible business position if they have to pay for both content and access to certain ISPs. Their prices will start to resemble...traditional cable prices.

Netflix was largely useless to me for the past three months on Verizon. Verizon FiOS is run by former telco execs, you can bet they will pull every underhanded tactic possible to get a payout.

they were paying for access before, just a third party instead of the ISP

95% of the time, when I hear someone having problems streaming something, they're using a Blu-ray player or Smart TV. I've never had any luck getting that stuff to work on my Panasonic TV or Sony BD Player. Even if some of your apps are working, others might be outdated. These are usually just tacked on features that aren't well supported.

I'd suggest trying a dedicated streaming device. You can get a refurbed Roku for $35. The latest models are $50-$95 new. I have no doubt you'll have a much better experience using Netflix/Amazon/Vudu/YouTube on that device.

Great advice, this. I learned this lesson through experience. Streaming was a crapshoot with my LG Blu-ray player. Sometimes it worked fine, most times it didn't. Then I bought a Roku, and now Netflix and Amazon Prime and just about everything else works like they are supposed to about 97% of the time.

Don't know who "they" is, but they are wrong. Streaming is the now (other than my ISP being down for a couple hours once or twice, I've never had a problem), something better will come along in the future.

What is next? I don't think they can get content to you any faster at this point.
