Re: The Roku Thread
I've been told by a few based on our situation of wanting a hard wired connection in order to get Playstation Vue (thru a LG Smart TV)....that getting either the Roku 3 or 4 would be the best choice. At first we were going to check the Amazon Fire TV since we're going with Prime but the new Fire TV doesn't have a dedicated CAT Port and you have to buy a Adapter. We have CAT5e cable ran that was for AT&T Uverse and now Direct TV which is going out the door end of the month. What's the difference between these two boxes and is either ok just for what we need it for?

Re: The Roku Thread
Keep in mind that Roku 4 was deemed to be annoying as it had a very loud fan when in use. So unless you require 4K content, Roku 3 is a better choice. Otherwise, if you do need 4K, try to find a Roku Ultra (2016 model which still has the Optical Out). The Ultra has an Ethernet connection.

The Roku 4 has a fan? I have never heard it...

Re: The Roku Thread
You must not have one of the affected units. I had read that in some reviews and I thought in a post in a thread on here. I do not have one so I cannot comment from personal experience.
I just did a Google search for Roku 4 Loud Fan and received many matches including some YouTube vids about the noise.

Looks like the streaming stick + is going to be on sale for $49.99 for the next few days starting at midnight tonight. Great price.

Re: The Roku Thread
I'm thinking of picking up a new Roku today or tomorrow, is this stick going to be the best bang for my buck right now? I'm afraid I'm not really up on my Roku knowledge, there's so many different ones out there now.

Yup. Cheapest one to do 4K UHD. Totally wireless, so you need to make sure you aren't hardwiring it. The only thing the Ultra one has above this is optical out, ethernet port, micro SD slot and ability to hook up a hard drive to it via USB. All features I didn't need, so this is most definitely the best bang for the buck. I think the remote has a few extra minor features too, but again, things I didn't need.

I didn't at first either till I was researching them to possibly upgrade from our Roku 3. Our receiver is old and won't pass 3D much less 4K. So we'd need a unit that has dual out. So if just upgrading the Roku the 2016 is the one for us. Didn't get one though.

Just got an email from Spotify saying they were removing the app from Roku and are working on a better one. That's cool because the current app doesn't work well and not much on selections.

There is a free rental on FandangoNow through Roku. It's an ad you click on. Mine had Home Alone on the ad. You click it and they send you an email with code to input on FandangoNow for a free rental. Only good through Christmas, so may want to check it out.

I'm hearing there was another email sent from Roku with a $5 Vudu credit.
So far I have not seen it.

It's in an email saying "check out what you're missing in these hidden gem channels." The code is buried pretty far down into the email.

Refurbed Rokus are Amazon's Deal Of The Day.
I grabbed the Roku Premiere+. I'm happy with my Roku 3, but lately it's been freezing from time to time.

$47.99 - Roku Premiere+ 4K UHD Streaming Media Player, Quad-Core Processor, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, and IR Remote | + includes HDR, Ethernet, MicroSD slot (Certified Refurbished)

Re: The Roku Thread
Thank goodness. I hated the app. No Playlist options, very generic layout, and overall a worthless app when compared to their phone app.
