As a follow-up, merely following the "5 second rule" didn't work, so I ended up disabling menu sounds and using the default screensaver about two weeks ago. It hasn't locked up since, but it's still pretty ridiculous that this has been going on for three months without a fix/firmware update.

Roku's last Streaming Stick was plenty of things: Compact, inexpensive and perfect for bringing on vacation. But you wouldn't call it fast, per se. That's something Roku aimed to fix with the latest version of the Streaming Stick, which packs in a quad-core CPU to deliver eight times the processing power of its predecessor. A pretty decent channel I would say it's almost comparable to X Hamster,Pornhub,X Video's,Spankwire Etc websites. Ton's of full scenes from NA,Brazzers paysites but just like pornhub,spankwire etc decent scenes are uploaded then removed for copyright infringement but then ulploaded again in an endless cycle.

Sugar Instant is still the best value (and thanks to whoever on this forum recommended it) - $7.99 per month for all the porn you can watch, all complete, uncut and uninterrupted. After I get a raise I might switch to Adult Empire Unlimited, which costs more but has a bigger selection including a lot more classic films.

Sugar doesn't cut anything off- are you talking about AdultEmpire? I tried Videobox and cancelled that right away because everything is broken up into scenes- when one scene ends you have to click the next one, you can't watch anything straight through. Yes, I actually care about the plot! The credits on porn are always funny too since nobody uses their real name!

Videobox has the watch complete movie feature if you watch it on a computer. There are ways(screen mirroring,HDMI line) to get the picture on your tv set.

I think it also has watch stash in order(one at a time) feature,also on the computer but have never tried it.

I have my computer hooked to my big screen and sound system, but video and audio quality is never as good as the Roku. I kept my SugarDVD (now called "Sugar Instant", as if DVD was a bad word all of a sudden) account mainly because I was impressed that they could actually show a number of 80s and 90s shot-on-video titles at the RIGHT FRAME RATE! I had never seen that through online video before and didn't think it was even possible til seeing them do it. Netflix and Vudu still can't show 80s sitcoms at the right frame rate, and they probably have tons more money than SugarDVD does- yet most people don't even seem to notice this anyways (to me it's like night and day. If YouTube could ever show video material at the right frame rate I'd be VERY happy.)

BUT- the weird thing is, these videos only display at the full frame rate on the Roku 1 and Roku SE (which are both the same unit.) I also have a Roku Stick and Roku XD, and both of those show those videos at the usual lower frame rate, even though they're supposedly more advanced models than the Roku 1! I emailed Sugar's tech support people about it but they just said they'd "look into it". They must not get too many inquiries about technical quality.

Roku just added the SyFy Now app. Like all the other TV Everywhere apps, it requires signing-in with a provider for full access.

It looks pretty awesome. There's a couple full seasons:

The Magicians: Season 1
Killjoys: Season 1
Defiance: Season 3
Dominion: Season 2
Face Off: Seasons 1-10

And currently airing shows like Wynonna Earp, Hunters, 12 Monkeys: Season 2, and Bitten: Season 3 have a handful of the latest episodes.

When is Direct TV going to have a streaming channel on Roku? Hopefully it will be free for current subscribers.

They seem too be behind in the times because Charter already has a free streaming channel for current subscribers and at last count it had 116 current channels.

AT&T is rolling DirecTV out as a standalone streaming service in the not too distant future from what I've been told. I'm sure current subscribers will be fine.

The WatchESPN app just added a bunch of content from ESPN Classic.

My favorite stuff is the old Harlem Globetrotter specials from ABC's Wide World of Sports. There's 24 shows from 1973-2014. I loved watching those as a kid.

If you're also buying a TV for that bedroom, I'd recommend one of the TCL Roku TV models. I got the 40-inch for under $300, and I love it. The 28 & 32 inch models are around $150-$175.

If you just need a Roku box, I'd recommend the Roku 3 ($85-$90). It has a wifi direct remote, so you don't have to point it directly at the box, which is convenient. And it has the remote headphone jack which can be useful in bedrooms.

If you're looking for the cheapest option, you might want to check out the new Roku Stick ($50). It's been getting great reviews (CNET review below). They made some big improvements over the original, with a quad core processor and dual band wireless. I prefer the boxes because I like an ethernet port. But the new stick sounds really good.

If you're okay with wifi only, the new Roku stick is great. Just as fast as the 3, and as long as you have the Roku app on your smartphone, you can use your phone as a remote or plug your headphones in to it for sound (the sound is kinda crappy though.) It does pretty much everything the 3 does for about $40 less.

Another vote for the Roku 3. Does everything that I need it to do. Does have a USB port to play files off a drive. Nice remote that is easy to use and has a headphone jack. The only "benefit" to the 4 that I see is it does 4k. Why they didnt include gigabit ethernet on the 4 is anyones guess.
