There are now custom themes for the Roku including a Star Wars one that seems to have been installed on its own and free ones for House of Cards and Game of Thrones that are available for purchase in the Roku store.

For anyone interested, Roku just added the NBC Sports package to their store.
Although for some reason I have it on my Roku 3, but it doesn't show up for my Roku XD (my first player) - its not even the store for that for some reason |

I have always wondered if there was any accounting of watched content via streaming, especially for episodes watched outside of original airing.

I'm now suddenly unable to stream any video from my ROKU to my 60" Sony (audio still streams). Instead there is a "HDCP unauthorized, content disabled" banner across my screen. I tried unplugging the Roku for a few minutes and trying again with no change. The same content (Netflix, HBO-Go) streams fine on all other devices. Anyone have this happen?

That didn't help matters. I even swapped out the cable for another HDMI cable with the same resulting message banner.

I tried pulling the plug again and letting it re-initialize and viola! I have no idea what I did differently this time, but what can I say? Things are good again...for the moment.

Sharp is going to start making Roku TVs. And there's some new models for the Insignia Roku TVs.
I own a TCL 40-inch Roku TV, and love it. It was only $300. It won't replace the Panasonic Plasma in my home theater. But it's a perfect TV for the bedroom. Coming Soon: Sharp TVs With a Roku Box Baked Right In Now Roku has another TV partner in its stable, and it’s a brand that should be a lot more recognizable stateside. Sharp will be offering its own Roku TV sets in the next month, in both the U.S. and Canada, exclusively through Best Buy. The sets will come with their own Roku-style remote, and the Roku homescreen will let you select connected components such as game consoles and cable boxes. The version of Roku OS running on the set also has the latest UI goodies announced by Roku, including personal feeds and voice search. However, the included remote doesn’t have a microphone; you’ll need to use an iOS or Android app for the voice features. Although Sharp offers some really high-end sets, including several mega-screened 4K models, the Roku-capable models will be geared to the low end. They’ll be 1080p panels, and they’ll be priced to move. The two Sharp Roku TV models announced today are a 43-inch 1080p TV for $380 and a 50-inch 1080p TV for $500. Roku’s Smith says there are no plans for Roku’s ecosystem to become Sharp’s smart platform across the board; for now, it’ll only be available on those two affordable sets. Along with those new Sharp TVs, Roku also announced a couple of new Insignia models that would have its baked-in features. So a year or so ago I ditched my crappy internet and got something "fast". I reduced my Dishnetwork from like $225 to $125 and got two Roku boxes. One for the living room (mainly for movies and watching TV series) and one for the bar for youTube, music and such.
I hate, hate, hate the one in the bar. I might go several weeks without using, but then when I really want to, use it, it simply doesn't work. I restart, I check for updates, I check for net connections, but even if I do all that and get it to work, say to watch a concert on youTube, it will work for about 10 minutes and switch to "loading" and never restart. It really never has worked "flawlessly". I keep thinking I'm too far from my router, but then when I check for a network connection is shows a good signal. Just tonight, having trouble, so I check for updates. It says there is one. But then when try to get it, it says "fails" to "check my network". So I do that. I get the three check marks that all is good. And repeat. I think I'm going to go for Apple TV. Least in the bar. I went Roku originally as I have Amazon Prime. But it is rare I watch a movie in the bar. Much more interested in youTube, music, etc. |

Which model? Both the Roku and Apple TV have pretty shoddy wifi though (signal strength is only half the battle), may want to invest in an Ethernet over Powerline adapter.

But the Roku won't work. That's why I didn't think it was Wifi. But I can at least try the adapter. |
