The Flixster channel has been updated. It now links to your Flixster account and you can watch your UV collection.

It's still in the works and still "planned" according to them.

The big thing about it still remains, in order for the new Netflix, they need the Roku 2 system software updated to support HTML5 which will drain the hell out of its current processor. I don't see Netflix developing a secondary app for older Rokus.

3. I removed, then reinstalled the channel, and it updated.

On the Roku 3 you go to Settings > System Update > Check Now.

Re: The Roku Thread

I had been using an older Roku model in my boys room, which is on the second floor, and had no problem with it using our wi-fi connection so I bought 2 Roku 1's to replace cable boxes we don't really use. I hooked up the old Roku in my office and hard wired it with the ethernet cable. For some reason the quality is lower with the ethernet cable than if I use the wi-fi signal. Any ideas on why and how I can get excellent, instead of just good, with the cable? When I use the wi-fi signal I get excellent when I check the Network settings but when I switch to wired it just says Good.

Black Belt TV now up on Roku for free. Unlike most channels, it's not on-demand, but "live". Looks like it's a mix of old kung fu movies, documentaries and some competitions:

FiOS used to have this channel, it tended to run a lot of obscure, older Kung Fu flicks in the wee hours.

Does anybody have good recommendations on a channel with a great UI for interfacing with music on your home network?

I've setup Plex on my NAS, but honestly the Plex channel leaves a lot to be desired in terms of UI (compared with other platforms it's on). Would like to see something more intuitive.

Re: The Roku Thread

Have you tried the pre-installed Roku Media Player? Interface is probably inferior to Plex though.

Re: The Roku Thread

Is yours a Synology NAS or some other manufacturer?

I have been using Roku's DS Video Channel to stream videos from my Synology NAS for months now with nary a hiccup. I believe there is a DS Audio channel in works - the DS Audio apps for iOS and Android are already in the wild. I've actually held off on trying to stand up the Plex server on my NAS specifically because of how smooth the DS Video integration went.... I'm expecting great things from the DS Audio channel.

But the Roku Media Player can access the NAS via DLNA, so that's an interim solution. Another option would be to upload your library to Google Music and use the Nowheremusic Private Channel to listen.

Re: The Roku Thread

I do have a Synology and had seen the DS apps, although I had not tried them. I'll play with the native Roku app and keep an eye out for others.

Plex on the Synology is okay. A little limited and slow for updates. For instance, having a check of a time updating metadata for mistagged albums through web interface.

Re: The Roku Thread

There's an Amazon Cloud Player app on Roku, too, if you have/want music on there.

Looks like there are EIGHT Synology apps that work on various platforms (iOS, Android, Roku):

DS Video (Roku-compatible): iOS 5.0/Android 2.3 + DSM 4.3 + Video Station 1.2
DS Audio (In work for Roku): iOS 5.0/Android 3.1 + DSM 4.3 + Audio Station 5.1
DS Cam: iOS 5.0/Android 2.3 + DSM 3.1 (*)
DS Cloud: iOS 5.0/Android 2.3 + Cloud Station 2.0
DS Download: iOS 5.0/Android 2.3 + DSM 4.3
DS File: iOS 5.0/Android 2.3 + DSM 4.3
DS Finder: iOS 5.0 + DSM 3.1 (*) //or// Android 2.1 + DSM 4.0 (*)
DS Photo+: iOS 5.0/Android 2.2 + DSM 4.3 + Photo Station 6.0

(*) Some features require DSM 4.3

I tried RMP last night - it couldn't "see" my NAS. Need to research the Options screen to find out if I can specify an IP address since my DS212j has a fixed IP.

The Nowheremusic Channel isn't bad, but it caps at 5000 tracks. I have somewhere between 8000-9000 tracks in my library so I can only access 60% of my library. For some that won't be a problem. I need to research that to see if it's a hard limit built into the software or if I can make Nowhereman a donation to have that upped to 10K or higher. Google Music's free account limit is 20K tracks - more than I'll likely ever need, since very little new music has actually been created since the 80s. :)

This may be of interest to Roku owners who subscribe to DirecTV...

Up until now, if you subscribed to DirecTV and owned a Roku device, you couldn't get the HBO GO service on your Roku. It looks like that might have changed today.

Although there hasn't been any official confirmation, I happened to check out the "Devices" section on the HBO GO website this morning, and clicked on "Choose Your Provider" to see if anything had changed with DirecTV and HBO GO. Took a screenshot of what I saw:

Thanks for the headsup. I'll double check it tonight.

If you signed-up for M-Go in the past couple months, check your email. I got a note last night that I had 3 days left to use my $10 Credit. I'm not sure how I got it. I thought the original sign-up promo was 2 free rentals which I never used. Maybe that's where the $10 credit came from. Anyways, you can use it to buy movies, and a lot are UV compatible.

There's also the coupon code "FATWALLET20" for 20% Off your first purchase. This can be stacked with the $10 credit.

I just saw that as well. I rented 3 titles the other day. They give you 30 days to watch them. If you do watch it, it will stay in your account for 24 hours.

These are probably the best channels for soccer.

WatchESPN
DishWorld Sports
MLS Live

DishWorld Sports is running a promo. Subscribe for 4 months ($10/month) and get $50 Off a Roku 3 or a Free Roku LT. I've never used DishWorld, so I don't know much about it. But here's a link to a review at WorldSoccerTalk.

http://www.dishworld.com/packages/sports/roku
http://worldsoccertalk.com/2013/11/1...via-dishworld/

Some of the clubs have their own channel. I don't know if they show full games. It's probably just highlights.

Corinthians USA
Seattle Sounders Football Club

I love MLS on Roku. I think I just paid $52.99 for the whole 2014 season. The level of play is a notch down from the best European leagues, but it's still decent. But you get all the games in the league in HD, and you can choose to watch replays of the full game, or 20 min or 5 min condensed versions. The blackout rules are a little confusing---if it's a nationally televised match, it's not available live. Supposedly your local team's match is blacked out live, but that's not true for all teams---the last two years my New England matches have all been available live for me.

Re: The Roku Thread

Dishworld is kinda weird, it says the English and Sports packages are free if you subscribe to one of their regular packages but those are in languages I don't understand? So I have to subscribe to a package I'll never see to get English and Sports?
