Game Night...so much fun. Great blend of humor, dark humor, characters (though Ryan character’s schtick got annoying all the time), action, twists, turns, just a lot of fun. A movie that knows it’s a comedy at heart, but meant to play to more. Not sure how this did overall, but I know RT score was low 80’s I believe.

Anyway, just enjoyable and funny throughout with a mix of everything else.

The Paper (1994)...better than I ever remembered. i think i saw in theaters, but remembered nothing, but that i liked it. watching it again had me giggling and laughing. great lines, story, actors, everything was on point. loved those days of simple, great ensemble cast movies such as this. they happen once in awhile, but not enough. this was a tough year with all the blockbusters then, but this should have made a bigger splash. this was Spotlight, before Spotlight. anyway, just so enjoyable and fun.

The Contender (2000)...great movie. great performances, especially Bridges and Oldman. why Oldman didn't get nominated i don't know. but, Bridges was especially great. fun fact: President Obama said Bridge's Evans was the best movie President he has seen. i love the twists and turns and swelling music at end still gets me.

Blockers (2018)...this was not good. can't believe the decent reviews and return. such a generic, bland twist on American Pie without the raunch and most importantly the funny. i laughed maybe twice. the script was terrible. only Ike Barinholtz, playing totally against type and only rational one, was decent, but again he is a comedian and was not in this. weird. Cena was good in the small doses in Trainwreck, but in a large dose like this? terrible. Mann played same character as usual, but more kooky and stupid. the three HS girls were totally forgettable. it was just not a great movie despite what the critics and audiences that saw it say and paid.

Although I had one or two problems with the film, this was a great, powerful movie. I wish it had been available when I had been in High School.

Spoiler:
My issues with the film were that:

1) The blackmailer doesn't pay much in the way of consequence for blackmailing and then outing Simon.

2) That Simon would think his grand gesture of inviting the Blue to a very public place in front of tons of people would be a good idea when Blue had made it clear he wasn't ready to go out of the closet.

Permanent Record (1988)...i had saw this a long long time ago. Didn’t remember much. It was ok. I don’t think they dealt with suicide too well and Keanu was like a serious Ted and a little overacting, especially when he realized David fell/committed suicide by rocks. Still, it held my interest and it was free in hd with credits at Amazon.

Re: Last movie/TV show you streamed?

A Quiet Place...John Krasinski’s horror movie, that he made on $17 million budget made about $332 million worldwide. That’s unheard of and probably ranks up there as low budget, high return movies of all time. Seeing it now and it’s fantastic for horror fans.

It ranks 4th out of 162 horror movies for domestic gross of all time. Behind Exorcist (including theatrical re-releases), It and A Sixth Sense...

Justifiable. Such an intense pulse pounding movie. Hitchcokian almost in its tense atmosphere. The lack of sound was almost deafening if that makes sense. Those creatures are so terrifying and given the budget are so well done and detailed (cgi?). This was just a pure exercise in terror and horror and suspense. I don’t know how these comedy guys, Jordan Peele and now Krasinski come up with this brilliant stuff when there known mostly as comedy guys, though Krasinski has off shooted from The Office to much more serious stuff and pretty good roles. But, just goes to show, brilliant, idea making goes along way no matter where you came from...

This is just a master stroke in movie making, as was Peele’s Get Out, which both should rank as horror greats. bringing fresh and new while still honoring horror movies that show satire (DotD (78)), tense gripping atmosphere (Psycho (60), and great creature effects (anything Stan Winston obviously and recent freak stuff in The Descent or even Signs.

This was simple, good characters and a fresh premise. Really raced my heart whole time.

Tully...i just saw this and really liked it. avoided too much for fear of spoilers. i faintly heard "twist", but didn't look into it and really forgot until i figured it out, well, really not figured it out, wasn't until Ron Livingston said her maiden name to the nurse after the accident, then it all clicked. but, i think it worked and i really liked it. and i think it showed real life post-partem depression and motherhood. another great one from Theron. Jason Reitman continues to impress me with his body of work. really like all his stuff and didn't even know he did Thank You For Smoking, which i loved. glad Diablo kept herself in check for this one and seemed to grow up in style and writing. really nicely done all the way around.

I watched Sausage Party on Netflix Canada which I found raunchy, politically incorrect and obscene and I loved it. I especially loved
Spoiler:
the lesbian Taco voiced by Salma Hayek and the orgy scene with actors that I never thought in that way with the exception of Salma.
Not recommended for kids and people who are easily offended.

Hearts Beat Loud...best .99cents i ever spent (due to Amazon digital stream price error).

What a wonderful movie. Simple, sweet, warm, heart, love, humor and such damn good music. i really loved this and see watching multiple times. the chemistry between Offerman and Clemons was genuine and incredible. just a joyful, great movie with incredible original music and Clemons is a marvelous singer. Look forward to more of her in any format in future.

BlacKkKlansman...what a sublime movie. this was an entirely thorough to the period, well done, well acted, well directed, well written movie. i had chills at the end knowing this was based on a true story with some dramatic changes. everything worked so well on so many levels. Washington was so likeable and so good. i totally forget who his father was until after, but who cares, he stands on his own as a really good actor. Confident and sure of his portrayal. this was like a culmination of all Spike Lee's films and I think his finest. truly not to be missed.

Crazy Rich Asians...wow!! did I freaking love this movie. it followed every trope in the rom-com genre, but did it in such a new, fresh fashion, that you've never really seen it before. it was just magic all the way through. had a smile on face whole time. simply dazzling movie making and movie making at finest. this should and will be up for BP at Oscars. loved every minute and it will be so rewatchable. this is my second favorite movie of 2018, right behind Infinity War.

Green Book...what a great movie. knew i would love it from first few minutes. only some do that. so light and breezy and fun and thought provoking. just incredible acting, directing (who would have thunk the guy who gave us Dumb and Dumber could direct with sweetness and deft to make both comedy and drama work in unison), music, certainly. just great all the way around.

Run (1991)...What a fun, breezy movie. Always loved the young Dempsey movies. Didn’t realize it had such a high body count and he does actually kill one person, with an uzi of all things. Always remembered and loved the final kill though. Good, cheesy stuff.
