Can anyone give positive or negative feedback on Canadian retaliers. I mean I really like some of their prices, but what about Customs. What about the exchange rates. How long does shipping take. And why do they insist on calling ham, "back-bacon" I mean come on. I liked Strange brew and enjoy throwing back the occasional Molsen, but are they for real when it comes to a DVD.

Again, any feedback appreciated

does the lack of posts on this thread mean that people are not buying from canadians, or are ashamed of their experiences?

Re: Canadian Retailers

The Canadian dollar: $1.00 us = 1.50 can(take as a rough guide). Exchange rates are posted and easily accessible over the internet.

Customs: remember free trade agreement?, no duty or customs.
Shipping: read etailers website, take as a given. Sometimes though, due to paranoid US govt., USPS will hold packages for scanning to check for drugs, bombs and other illicit material.

Ham is called back bacon because it comes from the back of the pig.

The 2 best sites are HMV and AB Sound, as well as CNL.com. Both are retailers. Other than that probably not. Chapters, forget it.

Prices are decent on some things, but HMV has some good shipping specials.

Why do southerner's say Y'all. Why do Americans end almost every sentence with ok. What's a redneck and how how do you determine whether or not someone is one? Canadians want to know?.

This only applies to America. Items going to Canada are usually charged customs, with few exceptions, like if it's going Purolator, if it's under $20 CDN if it's bought, or if it's under $60CDN if it's a gift. Sometimes you get lucky and they just forget, but it isn't like in America where regardless of how big your order is, they don't charge customs. Canada customs sucks.

http://absound.ca best bet for USers due to very low pricing

http://dvddynamic.com & http://dvdboxoffice.com free shipping but higher prices - good if you don't like calculating shipping

http://cnl.com is horrible. They charge a $5 handling fee ON TOP of shipping. If they decide to split your shipment, they'll charge you $5 PER SHIPMENT!

http://hmv.com has very high pricing. Useless IMHO unless you have GCs

Try also http://samscd.com , http://www.totalactionuniverse.com , http://www.thunderdvd.com

Customs and Duty

Items going to Canada ARE NOT charged any customs, duty or excise taxes. They are charged GST and PST only plus Canada posts(if sent by mail) really annoying shopping tax of 5.00.

I don't mind Chapters except for the fact that they have nothing in stock. I think the problem is I ordered a ton of books from them and got them without a hitch.

used totalactionuniverse for Bond #2 and X-files #1 (when they were 50% off - free postage). Bond shipped immediately. X-files was put on BO and only shipped after I emailed them after a couple of months.

Ordered Anne of Green Gables from Chapters.ca with a coupon. Tooook fooooreevvver to get the darn thing to me. (about 3 or 4 months). Was not in a hurry, but it was irritating.

Did I mention I love William Shatner

Okay, with the exception of the people who seem to be canadian, not that there's anything wrong with that, a straight-up American such as myself, living in the great state of Arizona, should probably not buy from those who salute the Maple Leaf. Which is just fine. I should also point out that I have nothing against the country that produced such entertainment like Uncle Joey from Full House, Alanis Morriessette, You Can't Do That On Television and of Course, Degrassi Jr. High (which is about due on DVD...almost as much as Road House)

Thanks, that is all
