Just wonder when packages sent as USPS Prioiry , will the reveiver have to sign for the package?, the point beeing could one find out who received a package?
|
You pay extra for having someone sign for a package. Otherwise, they just leave it.
|
Even if it says signature needed it is just left..
|
patrckpiteo,
not true (unless your carrier is doing something wrong). It can be left without a sig if they accept the sig of the mail carrier via a waiver you can sign when you send the package. |
There are two add-ons for Priority Mail - Delivery Confirmation & Signature Confirmation.
Delivery Confirmation costs an extra $0.40 and they will leave the package (it's rudimentary tracking, basically). They are supposed to have someone sign for a package with the other Signature Confirmation option, which costs an additional $1.75 (over 4 times the cost 'cause the mail carrier has to get out of the van, I suppose). |
Also, if the package is insured for more than $50, it will require a signature.
|
As a general rule though, assuming you are inquiring about DVDs sent priority mail, all the online stores send them out either with or without delivery confirmation, neither of which requires a signature from the recipient.

UPS does that too, so it really depends on the carrier.
I particularly don't mind if UPS leaves the package by my door because I live in an apt building and my UPS person has a key to my building. |
FYI-
The Postal Service has just started a new service called "signature confirmation" that DOES require a signature for delivery. It costs an extra $1.75 at the post office or $1.25 for etailers that have electronic forms. I can't believe the USPS thinks getting the mailman to knock on your door and have you sign for a package is worth an extra $1.75. |
raytrade,
I can... THe alternative is a combo of certified/return receipt. It's a way to avoid having to have something mailed back to you. Pricing is similar. |
