Dear Valued Customer,

We at Ken Crane's DVDPlanet, realize that you have several options in purchasing your DVD's online. Our goal is to be your number one choice by providing the best in customer service, coupled with the largest selection of DVD titles.

As many of you know, over the past two years, growth in the DVD market has exploded. Aggressive competition among DVD e-tailers has, unfortunately, led to unrealistic and unsustainable pricing (in many cases below cost).

Consequently, we find it necessary to announce a modest increase in our pricing. Effective March 1, 2001, our discount rate will be 25% off the suggested retail price (SRP). Please take notice that we also have new shipping prices. Naturally, pre-orders and back orders placed prior to March 1, 2001, will be honored at 30% off SRP (plus shipping).

Rest assured that Ken Crane's DVDPlanet.com will continue to provide you with the best service and selection to which you are accustomed. We appreciate your business and will work harder than ever to maintain your support and loyalty.

Sincerely,
Ken Crane II

At least a retailer who is honest about the situation.

I knew about this for about a year and was just waiting for them to actually announce it and do it. If the rest of the online stores don't follow soon they will be in one of the following: 1) That infamous .com graveyard (need I point out these) or 2)Stop selling dvd's all together (like the rumor about buy.com). A good thing can't last forever!

that sucks...but atleast they were honest about it

djones6746 02-09-01 06:39 AM

Wow!!! I did not ever think they would raise prices from their general discount since they never offer coupons!!! Times are looking very bad!!! :(

AudioWizard 02-09-01 06:45 AM

I was looking at preordering some dvd's from 800.com and see they do something similar. They want $2.99 shipping per disc on preorders, I'm not sure what happens if you preorder multiple discs that street the same day.

Price increases are inevitable. But at least they came straigh out and told us.

Placed a big order now while DVDs are still 30% off. I guess Amazon may get all my preorder business in the future. Wonder how long it will be until they get rid of 30% off preorders too?

Hollywood Video must be smiling now about pulling their money out of Reel.com and refocusing on the rental market. That'll pick up now that DVD sales will slow down with prices going up...
