Amazon has the list price of Legend of the Drunken Master (aka Drunken Master 2) as $32.99. However, all the press releases have indicated a $29.99 list and all of Amazon's competitors have this price as well.

I explained this to them and received a standardized "we do not price match" template reply. I replied to this and tried to make it even clearer with a semi-diagram and simplified text. I specifically stated that I did not want a price match but that they had an ERROR in their database. Guess what? Another form reply stating almost the same thing, except with the price match bit removed!

Is it that bloody hard to forward the message to the correct people? Or even read a message completely? Jeez.

Give it up. I once spent two months trying to correct a title entry for a film whose primary actor was nominated for an oscar (Central do Brasil [Central Station] with Fernanda Montenegro). They had it as a music concert DVD including the group "Central Station." It did not matter how many times I patiently directed them to websites that would confirm their error, incuding the website of the publisher. After that I never bothered other than in asides during conversations. They have idiots running their catalogue listings.

Whoa, I actually got through to them! I sent a 3rd message, clearly stating the issue along with links to the press release and instructing the mail reader to direct this to their supervisor. I had to stress that I was not asking for a price match but rather an error correction that was probably costing Amazon sales. Finally I received a non-template reply stating the letter had been forwarded to her supervisor. A few days later, the price had been changed to the correct 29.99 list. "Victoly!" http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/wink.gif

It's too bad I changed my mind about purchasing this DVD.

A few months ago I was looking for the movie Soldier of Orange (Paul Verhoeven director, Rutger Hauer in the lead role, awesome Dutch movie). Anyhow, I had heard this movie was going to be released on DVD and I placed my order with Amazon. They had a release date of October 10 or something, last year that is.

10/10/00 comes and goes, no word on shipment or anything. After checking with Anchor Bay Entertainment, I come to discover they don't plan to release this DVD until April of this year, along with a few other of Paul Verhoeven's Dutch movies (such as Spetters and The Fourth Man).

I write Amazon about this and their first reply was something along the lines of "this is a very popular title and we are sending them out as soon we get them in on a first come first serve basis." http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/confused.gif

A second e-mail explaining that it's difficult for them to send something out that hasn't been released yet triggers another, creative response, which said something like "We are sorry for the delay, but we're anticipating receiving additional copies of this title and send one out to you shortly." http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

My third e-mail triggered the reply: "We've received word that this title has been delayed until April of next year." http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/mad.gif

In my final e-mail I asked for an explanation for lying to me. Their reply, in not so many words: "We told you that this title was not available until April 2001! What are you complaining about?" http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/eek.gif

I cancelled my order with them and will never, ever use them for anything again. http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/wink.gif

The latest (I still have it on order from Amazon) is that the hyperlink to the title on my order has been dropped, suggesting that they are not even pretending to guess a release date. Anchor Bay no longer has it listed in their Spring lineup.

I think "divx inventors (idiots) working online" is what he means.

I've also had several experiences where a title is delayed, and they never send out any notification - unlike buy.com (or was it 800.com?) who notified me that "Repo Man" would be shipping one day late - now that's service!
