I placed an order on 11/21. One item was in stock, one had "2-3 day" availability, and one was a preorder for 11/23. I told them to ship it all together so they don't charge me triple for shipping. Anyway, it is now 12/4, which is more than "2-3 day availability" and way past the preorder release date of 11/23. I called them to ask if they would ever be so nice as to ship my order (after waiting 15 minutes on hold), and they have tighter security than the pentagon. They had a really hard time believing I was who I said I was (me.) They wanted me name, address, credit card #, retinal scan, jeez these guys are way too paranoid. When they actually answered, she talked to me about how stuff isn't in stock. i said it was a preorder from 2 weeks ago and there should be no excuse for everything to still be out of stock when the availability I was told was not 2-3 weeks, but 2-3 days. I asked if she could tell me when my order would ship, and she puts me on hold for an "order specialist." After 5 more minutes on hold, I gave up. My opinion of amazon just went way down. I'm a shareholder in them too, and their stock is going way down too. I used to defend them, but if they're going this far to anger a loyal customer and shareholder, I'm having second thoughts about using them.

I should start using dvdplanet, always 30% off and always $2.50 shipping, and it's usps not ups. How's dvdplanet's customer service?

I ordered a CD 6 days ago or so. It also had a 2-3 day shipping availability. Still no answer as to if they will ship or not. I'm probably going to cancel the order and buy B&M tomorrow.

My copy of Gladiator still hasn't shipped yet.

I preordered it on October 13, and have exchanged a number of emails with them.

Status says 1 on hold and they've now credited me for the shipping for this item.

I just checked the item availability and it says ships in 24 hours.

Which leads me to wonder why the estimated arival date of my DVD order now says January 12-18!

I'm going to try calling them now.

I preordered an anime DVD from Buy.com in mid-October, for an early November release. As of a few days ago I still didn't have it, and if you look up the DVD it reads, "Ships in 24-48 hours!" Happily, when I called them on it, they told me they'd expedite my order and give me a $20 credit.

Amazon is Buy.com with far worse customer support.

Still waiting on American Beauty and Apocalypse Now that shipped on Nov. 1 via some kind of magical shipping method known as "DHL Worldmail" (whatever the h*ll that is).

I'm having the same problem. I place an order on 11/25 for four items, 2 of which were listed as "ships in 24 hours", and the other 2 in "2 to 3 days". Since then, the order has just sat in limbo. If I go to amazon and look up the items individually, the stock status on each seems to change almost daily, from "2 to 3 days" to "24 hours" to "4 to 6 weeks", etc. I usually check the different items once a day and its almost always something different on each one. However, If I check the actual order itself it still shows the status that was listed when I placed it (all 4 items available in 24 hours or 2 to 3 days) and shows the same estimated delivery range (which begins tomorrow). It's as confusing as it sounds, I don't know what the hell is going on.

I'm wondering - are they waiting until they get all four items I ordered in stock at the same time before they get the order together and ship it? If so, that may never happen. I always thought if you placed an order with some items in stock and some out of stock, they would go ahead and hold the items they have while waiting for the ones they don't. If that was the case, the order should have shipped by now, as all items have been in stock at one time or another since I placed it, just not all at one.

I may be wrong, but I think "DHL Worldmail" is an international delivery service for foreign orders. If you are in chicago, they may have made a mistake. I'd call them and find out. Even if that's not the case, if your order hasn't arrived in almost five weeks it's most likely lost, so you should call them and try to get them to replace it anyway.

Some guy in Chicago, Ecuador was made very happy several weeks ago (if he has a player, that is).

I stopped purchasing DVDs from Amazon several months ago (except for the rare coupon that is too good to pass up). DVDEmpire gets 90% of my on-line business now and I am a happier man for it.

I don't think it matters what you order, everything at their site seems to be in limbo.

I & my youngest daughter each ordered a pda on the 22 of November. Both said ship in 24 hours. A day after each of us placed the order we checked the order status and it said 1 on hand. Checked it again on the 26 of Nov and it's been sitting in the 1 on hand - shipping soon status ever since. Can't cancel the order since it's in the shipping soon status.

I have numerous items on order from them from Barbie dolls, to a cd changer and dvds and all are stuck in 1 in hand and shipping soon status. Most been like that for over a week now. Took them almost a week after street date to ship X-Files season 2 boxset. Also noticed what they have shipped is taking a hell of a long time to get here. Almost 2-3 times longer than normal, but I guess that is because it's that time of the year.

I guess this is what they really mean by free shipping.

Maybe it is time everyone fire off a email to one of those news wire services and tell them about all the problems Amazon seems to be having. Just like when they were screwing with all the dvd prices, maybe this will get their attention.

Just an update to my above post:

I think when they credited me the shipping, someone changed my shipping to "when order is complete." The estimated delivery time was the same as When Harry Met Sally (same order, street date 1/9)

Any way, the order specialist I talked to was very cooperative and he said he's going to email the distribution house and I should have some kind of response (either a shipping confirmation or an explanation) by Weds. morning.

I also got a $10 promotional GC out of it. So I'm willing to give 'em another day.

Roy28,

Under the order detail on their site, it should list the shipping information. It will either say "ship as available" or "ship when order complete".

They charge more shipping for "as available" but you can change the desired shipping status using the link on that same page if you want.

Kahuna,

Hope you're stuff shows up soon. Our mail always gets worse during Christmas. Well, I guess everyone elses does too.

I have had some strange experience myself also. I had to send them several e-mails before I got my order. And every reply from the e-mail was saying different things.

First one said I will be receiving part of the order next week and that I will be charged multiple times for shipping.

So I said don't split it, I don't want to pay shipping. Soon I get a e-mail back saying that the order hasn't been split and will be shipped tomorrow completely.

The very next day I got a e-mail for shipping confirmation saying that they split my order to serve me better. (The worst thing about the split? I ordered a Dreamcast and a memory card, and they decided to ship the memory card first... what the heck am I supposed to do with that?)

So I e-mail them again saying what the heck is going on with copies of their own e-mail + shipping confirmation. I really should have gotten a $10 GC or something out of this whole ordeal, but the holiday's coming up and most of the online stores are having similar problems with so many orders.

Amazon is not so bad, except when it comes to some pricing schemes...

Over 30 orders with amazon and I've seen nothing but excellent customer service, even sending me gift certs to make up for their mistakes.

They've been sitting on my order for a few days now. 1 of 5 items shipped and the other 4 have been listed as "Shipping soon" for a few days. I wonder if I should call them and ask them what their definition of "soon" is.

Amazon used to be a great place to buy good books. Now they're a great place to look stuff up and buy elsewhere. No wonder their stock is poop.

kahuna, I ordered that Pioneer CD Changer also along with a boatload of XMAS toys for the kid with the free shipping and coupons of course. I haven't seen anything yet and it took me 5 phone calls to get them to apply the promo on the Changer. I'm sure they are getting bombarded but I think I was put on hold longer with them than calling my monopoly phone company.

If it's any consolation, I had to wait on hold twice today because I messed with something I should have just left alone. Anyway, the little sweatermen jingle was kinda cute...

"order specialist" are the only people worth talking to on the phone, Most of the time they resolve your problem quickly. The reps you first talk to on amazon.com are buy.com customer service rejects. They are usually a pain in the a$$ to talk to, but some of them can solve your problems. Well, that's my experience on the phone with amazon.com. It's the holiday season, a lot of orders are taking forever to ship.

I've had some bad back-order experiences lately, but I have only the highest regard for their "Order specialists" (unlike Buy.com). Now if only I didn't have to talk to a specialist so often....
