I got a free trial for this from XBox Live and think I'm going to renew when its up here in a few days. It's saved me quite a few hours and gas money not having to deal with the shopping in store. In one case I was able to use the $10 rush delivery to get chicken for a family dinner to my partner when we discovered we didn't have any meat in the fridge. Ordered it from work and it was delivered within 30 mins. Would have taken her 90 mins via public transit to do that.

I've had the same thing happen with doing a store pickup of an order.
I'm not sure if all WMs operate the same but mine is a Super Center. When the shopper has picked the items, those that did not get substitutions are flagged and another shopper will recheck those. They will check the shelf and, if not found, will check the backroom. Might depend on how diligent your store is but there's always the outside chance that neither person found the item where they were supposed to be located. This is why it's important to choose your substitution options.

*All* the stores here are either Super Centers or WM Grocery (and one of those is huge). It's always been one of the Super Centers who omits an item. On one trip, I picked up the "available" items and had checked before leaving to see the "OOS" items showed to be in stock so then pulled into a normal parking space, walked inside, got the item off the shelf, checked out, and went to the Service Desk to complain about the poor service. The manager was worthless, kept making lame excuses, and the complaint fell on deaf ears. My wife will no longer select that store if what she needs is available at one of the others. And *that* part gets me too... Your order *should* be pulled from *any* local store that has it in stock. You shouldn't have to get an order together and then switch between the stores to see which has the most items in-stock. I've done online "ship it" orders and had items delivered from 2 or 3 local stores instead of being shipped. If they can do it for a "ship it" order then they can do the same for a delivery order, especially considering how much the membership costs.

Substitutions are OK if *I* get to select the brand - otherwise, not going to happen. My wife's the same. She runs a small bakery out of the house and the brand is often crucial for what she's making. If we've selected a WM branded item we'll often allow a substitution - but there are even a few of those that are superior to the identical "name brand" choice. We're quite picky about which brand(s) on some items so no subs allowed.

The instructions on how to opt-out are on that page I linked, as I mentioned. I just checked, and the instructions still work to opt-out.
