I was diving through some old e-mail, and my friends insisted I pull up this old message. It was a response to me wondering why I'd not received my most recent Staples order:

Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2000 15:14:08 -0800
Subject: Re: This Customer Number has been Restricted by Staples Direct.
From: "Staples.com" <[email protected]>

Thank you for shopping at Staples.com, Dave.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, but the items you
ordered are currently out of stock. Since these items were on clearance
there is a possibility they may not come back in stock in the future.
Your current order has been canceled.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Please do not
hesitate to contact us if you require further assistance.

Thank you for shopping at Staples.com,

Now, this message is absolutely hilarious for several reasons:
- The items were obviously in-stock, as others who ordered them received their orders.
- The subject line, which seems to indicate that I'd been 'blacklisted' for using too many coupons. ^_^
- My name is Martin, not Dave.

We finally peiced together a good guess at what happened: My e-mail was forwarded to some supervisor, whose name is Dave. He forwarded it on to a customer 'service' rep, with my blacklisting mentioned in the subject line. The clueless rep, thinking the subject to be from my original message (and thinking 'Dave' was my name) made up the ******** message about 'out-of-stock' to appease me, failing spectacularly, and just added a Re: to the subject to give it the appearance of a direct response.

Anyways, we thought it was funny, and many of you burned by Staples might think so too. And it DOES prove what we've always known: Staples has a 'black-list' of customers with whom they will not do business.

Staples Sucks!
Apparently they sold my name and address to other suppliers, because I keep receiving office catalogs and their dumb postcard offers.
