eBay sellers confusing location information
I purchased an item from a seller on eBay based on their location because I needed the item quickly. The same item was being sold by other sellers for a lower price but their locations were further away so I paid more to get it sooner. It's been 2 days so I checked the tracking info & the expected delivery date is another 10 days from now. I'm in NY & the seller is supposedly in NJ so I wondered why shipping would take so long.
This is the info on the item page: Shipping:FREE Economy Shipping Item location: Dayton, New Jersey, United States But this is the info on seller information page: Based in China, ****** has been an eBay member since Jan 04, 2019. How can the item location be different than the seller's location? Could this be due to eBay's International shipping program? Either way, it's dishonest & contradicts the purpose of listing the seller's location. |

That sounds like a legitimate complaint. Particularly if it was a more expensive item, as you could be charged duty and/or taxes on something shipped internationally.
I have a similar beef with Amazon. Not that they're being deceptive, just that i's very difficult, if not impossible, to find out where some third-party sellers are located. |

It's just the nature of the global economy - anyone can be from anywhere. Many international sellers can place a US address as their location because instills more confidence from US buyers.
Or the payment could technically be sent to a seller in New Jersey who has a supplier in China. I'm not sure how eBay can really regulate this kind of thing as all they really know about their sellers is what they're told. I guess the only way is to check the estimated shipping times and base it on that. |

You are likely buying from a seller in the United States but will actually be getting your item from China. I bought a "working" Infinity Gauntlet from a supposed domestic seller and ended up with a dishwashing glove that had jewels glued onto it and it was shipped from China. At least PayPal gave me my money back on that one.

This practice sucks because almost everything that ships from China is going to be a counterfeit or bootleg. |

If you are buying typical made in China stuff, just buy it on Amazon. Your seller is Chinese. They are allowed to list products and say it ships from the USA. Unless it collapses their feedback or seller metrics, nobody will care. It’s typically unsustainable because the negative feedback or failed metrics. But foreign sellers do it anyways. And eBay looks the other way because they want to compete with Amazon. |
