I don't shop at Toys R Us often but we did go around the holidays to buy board games and toys to donate. I'd be sad if/when they go. Does that include Babies R Us too?

I'm curious as to the statement that they will "sell" or "close" all of their US stores. Who would buy out a failing company?! It's obvious they're going out of business, but adding "sell" in there makes like it seem like they have a chance to avoid going under completely, which is obviously not the case. Sad.

I never really shopped at Toys R Us growing up. The nearest store was an hour away from my hometown. All my toys were bought at Walmart, Kmart, yard sales, and flea markets. I think I have been in a Toys R Us maybe three times in my life. I told my Mom they were closing and she said we never shopped there, because they were too expensive.

I hate to see the decline of retail. I like to be able to go in a store and buy something when I need it (or want it). Everything will probably be bought online and dropped off by drones in the future.

They did have pretty good prices on video games when I was buying them. Remember getting a Supercharger for the Atari 2600 (a device that loaded games from cassette tapes which were more complex than most cartridge games) for $10 when they sold elsewhere for a lot more than that. Later on bought Sega Saturn games in the $15 range, then got a PS2 and sort of got bored of the whole thing after that.

Will always remember buying the Nintendo Entertainment System (full set with the gun and robot) at a Toys R Us here on my birthday in 1986- after the video game crash of '84 I thought this would be here and gone in a flash, but I liked the games they had for it anyways. I ended up being the "first on my block" to get this system, and just a few years ago sold the Box it came in (no games, no system, just the BOX) on Ebay for about $100.

Again, the debt they were saddled with when they were "bought" is what did them in, if TRU Canada or whoever wants to buy some of the more profitable stores/leases, they can still make money. If someone new comes in without a supply chain, well, good luck.

How exactly are you "selling" a store when the company is going out of business? As far as closing goes there are five stores and a distribution center here in the area. When will the going out of business sales start?

They probably own the buildings. They're not selling the company, they're selling property.

Yep, so far ok, TRU Canada issued this statement:

And interestingly, MGA Entertainment (the toy company that makes the Bratz dolls) is reportedly seeking to buy the Canadian TRU stores.

As a frequent cross-border shopper (from Canada to the U.S.), I've rarely been in a Canadian Toys R Us that wasn't reasonably to very busy, but I've been in more than a couple of U.S. locations that were virtually dead even during peak weekend hours for years now.

Sad Toy's R Us is closing. I took my sons on their birthdays so that can run across the store and choose their present

I driven by the local store several times now, and no signs are up yet saying its going out of business. I'm waiting for the sales to see if I want anything, maybe a good Lego set.

my girls will be 13 and 15 this year so they are long out of the toy phase. Oddly years back when given the choice of going to TRU or Target they preferred Target which obviously had a much smaller selection. I never really understood it, but we stopped going there years ago. Not sure I want to even go as a nostalgia thing before they close up shop.

Better go soon - rumor is that LEGO is pulling all of their merch from the store as early as next week. Even now there are no discounts on LEGO products at TRU while practically everything else is on sale.

Yeah I don't see LEGO allowing any of their product to be part of a blowout. They can easily take that merchandise back since they probably haven't been paid for it anyway. They'll be able to sell it somewhere else eventually whether other B&M's or through their own store.

Well even if Legos aren't included I'll still probably go into my local store one last time just to see if there's anything I have to have.
