I did a 15 dvd order from buy.com with the 30 off 150 free shipping weekend. 2 of my dvds shipped immediatly (in stock). hellraiser/hellbound tin came on release date and final destination came today (6days early)! I'm so happy i switched my order from dvdempire to buy. dont have any doubts ordering from buy.com. the only thing that didn't ship was short circut and i think its the studios fault. Final destination has AWESOME 5.1 sound by the way one of the best and video is great as always.

Vash 09-22-00 12:56 AM

To answer your question...NO!(since I still don't have my Reel.com orders from them.)

terminator911 09-22-00 01:05 AM

How on the heck did you receive all of those titles from them already?

I pre-ordered most of those a long time ago and I still haven't received a d@mn thing! http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/mad.gif

mpeg 09-22-00 02:07 AM

it seems i live horribly close to one of their warehouses.

djones6746 09-22-00 09:40 AM

Their prices are awesome...coupons are the best in the business.....customer service is not that good!!! I would not say they are awesome but they have been getting alot of my business over the last 8 months!!! Service has been pretty good except on a couple of titles back in August!!!

Everything I've ordered from them gets here next business day for the price of regular shipping or free on free shipping days. No complaints from me whatsoever. Prices are low and with coupons, they are hard to outmatch.

DVDRules1 09-22-00 11:46 AM

I understand and respect that some have had definite problems with buy.com, but I think that when they're good, they're very good. Orders come quickly and well packaged, and although their customer service area is reportedly not great, I've never had the need to call them.

If you're thinking about buy, give them a chance. If they don't perform, go to a different store.

Movie_Man 09-22-00 02:40 PM

I had pre-ordered Anna and the King with BUY when it was first announced. Later, the studio announced a price reduction, so I asked BUY to change my preorder to their newly listed selling price (the price BUY was now selling it for). Their response was NO, we cannot price match since your order is more than 48 hours old.
They won't match their own price for something that hasn't shipped yet?? http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/mad.gif http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/confused.gif

djones6746 09-22-00 03:57 PM

I preordered Anna And The King with a coupon and will pay $13.76 shipped!!! I am not worrying about having the original preorder price of $19.99 reduced any further just because the studio made a mistake listing it at the higher retail price!! I understand your beef though...I wonder why they cannot just lower it for everyone??? If I hadn't used a coupon , I would be cancelling it and reordering!!!!

Buy.com is anything but awesome. Ever try to cancel an order there? All that happens is the status changes to "Cancellation Requested" and the item ships anyway. Then, when you go to return the item it takes them 6-8 weeks to send you the mailing label (which is nothing more than a sheet of paper). What's funny is that when your mailing label comes, you probably won't get just one...more like 4 or 5, all in seperate envelopes. I won't even get into the ED2:LE fiasco.

At buy.com, the inmates are running the asylum.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I received my Hellraiser Tin from Buy today http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

dvdirv 09-23-00 09:00 PM

For Groucho and others, if Buy sends you an item you had already cancelled, put your foot down and demand they give you a UPS air bill which they can email y ou immediately.

By doing this, you get your mailer instantly and don't have to hassle over the return.
You put the label (made by your printer) on the package and take it to any UPS facility or a Mail Boxes Etc. (or similar UPS package place).

The bottom line is that you have to ask for this service, don't expect Customer Service to offer it to you!

They gave me a 1.50 credit on Chicken Run DVD just yesterday when the price I ordered it at (19.49) was changed to 17.99 on their pages now. They are great.

...

Ok....they have the BEST CS around. You get an email response, very informative within 12 hours usually. I get things that I order w/ regular shipping overnight instead (scream box shipped yesterday, got it today)...

They have coupons...

promotions...

free shipping...

What else do you want? They are the ONLY place I buy online for DVD's.

Just started a month ago but already have 40 owned and 20 more on pre-order. That is crazy!

kwbdc 09-24-00 02:33 AM

buy.com has come through for me 90% of the time. they have good coupons, occasionally free shipping and every single preorder has come in before the release date. i have never received a damaged dvd and only once did i get the wrong item. so far they are a solid second to the now defunct reel.com http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/frown.gif

If it were true customer service, I wouldn't have to ask. No problem, since I won't be ordering from them again.

Every time I've griped about Buy.com on this forum, I've gotten two kinds of replies:

1. "Buy.com sux. I've had the same problem," or
2. "Buy.com kicks ass, since my xxx order worked just fine."

I think the simple take-home lesson is: Buy.com is great until they screw you (intentionally or not). In my experience, I was mighty pleased with them for a number of orders: early shipping for pre-orders, great coupons. However, the honeymoon ended when I had a series of pre-order mishaps: late shipping, ignored cancellations, and, worst of all -- misleading, vague, or downright false Customer Service responses.

Personally, I'm boycotting Buy.com after a particularly bad experience -- to me they're just not worth the few cents I'd save if I got my order.

NO NO NO NO. Then YOU would have to go out of your way for THIER mistake.
Make them send you a SASB or have THEM schedule a UPS pickup at YOUR convience. I had this problem a few years ago with LUCAS ARTS. They promised me a game shipped 1 week before it was released to the software stores. Well a month after the games release, i still haddnt seen my game. I canceled the order and boght it at CompUSA. Well, lo and behold, the box shows up and LUCAS wanted me to mail it back and tehy would send me a check for the postage. NOpe, they finaly relented and scheduled a UPS pickup for 3:00PM, now who is at home at 3:00PM on a weekday...not me, so they finaly got smart and had the UPS guy pick it up at 5:30. Moral of the story. If its not your mistake, you dont have to go out of your way. Just make sure that the item remains unopened and ready to be returned, and be a pain in their a$$!!
I am a firm believer in the concept that customer service and large companies will run all over you unless you develope a backbone and stand up for your self, and your rights.

namja 09-25-00 03:55 PM

If you order an item that is in stock, use no coupons, and pay with a credit card without any GC's, then buy.com is pretty good. Really, I've had several good experiences with them.

Now, if it's a pre-order or out of stock item, or if you're using coupons, or if you got some GC's, then ... good luck.

Cut Buy some slack... they are the best etailer around - best prices and best service. I have tried them all and buy.com is awesome. Most of the people who have a problem with them are those who had to suffer through the reel.com fiasco... but I never liked reel.com anyway. I think buy.com deserves a break... Lately they have not been doing as good a job at getting my DVDs to me as usual, but they have been very good about making it up to me with GC's and coupons. I ordered Final Destination from Amazon and am still waiting - wish I had ordered it from buy.

All I can say is you've been lucky. Since my problems with Buy haven't been related to the Reel change, I can't see their problems as being a one-shot thing. I deeply disagree with your claim that they have the best customer service -- I've been lied to and even cheated (they never credited me with a return they shipped me after a cancellation, for example).

I'll say it again -- when Buy.com gets it right they're unbeatable. But they're starting to get it wrong more and more often.

If I still bought at Buy, I'd go with Namja's point: only get what's already in stock. (Though even then you can't be certain: since they farm out with suppliers they can't be totally accurate about that.) Otherwise, buyer beware -- especially with pre-orders.
