Does anyone have a problem with Amazon.com account login page, it appears to be unsecured, this is the first time I have seen this. It was secured on Sunday and now on Monday it is unsecured (eg. my account password will be sent in clear text) ?

I thought it was always unsecure (atleast that's what I usually get). You have to hit the "login" button, it'll give you an error about incomplete info, but the page will switch to a secure page http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

nemein,
That's what I am used as well, but it wasn't doing that, it was still staying unsecured. Edited for spelling. [This message has been edited by Philby (edited September 18, 2000).] |
Why does it matter if it's secured or not?
It is far more likely for credit card information to be obtained by hacking into the server than by snooping your http/tcp connection. But just so you have your warm fuzzies, if you do a "view source" or equivalent you'll see that the login form is submitted using https so it is secure. |
If what jellofan posted doesn't ease your fears, than you can always replace the http with https in the URL/address bar of your browser, and it will bring up a secure page.

secured doesnt mean diddley except you get a cute little lock in the corner so it makes people feel good.
