What other online stores should I use(beside Amazon) for DVD's,CD's and books?

I been shopping at Amazon for about 2-3 years now.I do not like to pay sales tax online for my DVD's etc! I know if I use Bigstar.com they tax me and some other do too becuase I live in CA! Amazon does not tax it's customers( if you live in Washington State you pay taxes). I do not know if I want to stay with Amazon after reading here about the screwed up prices etc. I'm currenlty doing a online experiment with Barnes and Noble with an order of 2 DVD's(a ten off coupon from here?Cant remember)and a CD with DVD order with another coupon from the internet. I recenlty did a experiment with Borders.com with my book series I read "Doctor Who" at Borders.Borders shipped very fast. I was only charged $9.51 for the one book I ordered. I paid only $5.56 for the book! Amazon has this same book and it charging me full price!
SO if Amazon is having all these problems latley with thier customers, maybe it's time I changed to another store(s) similar to Amazon(Is there another online store similar to them??Any body know??) What stores are the people here who live in CA shopping at that does not charge tax, easy returns etc?What are other people doing in light of the problems are Amazon?can anyone help me?
Or should I just keep buying from Amazon?Maybe I should use my college computer to but my DVD in a hurry?Would the cookie thing problem still be there?Any ideas everyone ! I

In my experience, 800.com has always proved the most reliable. They ship quickly and accurately. Aside from a minor credit card dispute (expediently resolved), I've had no problems with them. One recent DVD shipment arrived two days after I ordered it!
Another key advantage that 800.com has is that they actually communicate with you. They e-mail you when your shipment arrives and the information on their order status screen is accurate. I can't say that for Buy and, to a lesser extent, Amazon.

I think this preoccupation with sales tax is silly.
The way to do things is to go to www.dvdpricesearch.com .
Then you can (permanently) set your preferences to show all the mentioned stores (800,Amazon,Buy,Express,Dvdplanet,etc.) and you can set your state to California.
Then, for every title you enter, it gives you a total at each of these stores including shipping and tax.
In other words, if one store has sales tax, but the price is 10% cheaper, it may cancel out, and then the store with the least shipping may carry the day.
Ultimately, with a few exceptions, when there is a $10 coupon, that is going to make any store cheaper.
When there is no coupon, then 83 cents cheaper is not worth more hassles.
With Amazon, you get the best web-based account and order maintenance. For example, you can combine orders and even apply a GC gift from a family member to a previously made order. When you e-mail them, you get a reply within 24-48 hours. They still give you the benefit of the doubt (cf reinstatement of orders for Heathers SE at the price of the old edition).
Their prices may vary and may sometimes be more, but once you look at a particular item's price and decide that you want to buy it at that price, the rest of the process of buying a product from Amazon is less of a hassle than anywhere else.
BN is okay, but their DVD prices are quite high. I've had good results at 800.com, I might try them more once all coupons are gone elsewhere. Buy has consistently low prices. Express has been great so far, but some people have "expressed" doubts about what has happened the last few weeks.
Oh, and BTW, Amazon is the only site on the Internet, where I have never experienced any slowdown in displaying a web page. They have massive servers. Yesterday, when there was this big rush on Amazon due to some pricing errors, there was no slowdown whatsoever there, but DVD Talk came to a standstill when the same people were reading about here!
