I had a gc for Bigstar and I used it to buy a DVD. When I got to check out to my surprise it charged me 6.5 % Minnesota sales tax. I was most surprised on this. Anybody else have similar experiences?? I haven't bought from anybody online except for Amazon for sometime and I know they don't charge me sales tax. Don't think other online stores I bought from in the past have either, but I could be mistaken.

Bigstar has to charge you sales tax because they maintain a physical operation in MN (also in NY, CA and NV).

Amazon does not because they have no physical presence in MN.

Basically what kuroiinu said, etailers that have physically presence in your state charge Sales tax.

At least you get a break(sort of). California Residents have to pay sales taxes when they buy from Express.com,Buy.com,Amazon.com and Bigstar.com .

Well, basically, my response to every mailing I get from Bigstar is, "I'll shop there again when you honor the $10 off $20 coupon you sent me."
