If I cancel an order at Amazon that I used a gift certificate on, will they send me a new gift certificate or how does that work? TIA!

The gift certificate amount will remain in your account, so you can use that amount on your next order. On the second to last page of the checkout process, your total GC amount will be listed.

This even works if you used a promotional certificate. That is refunded too.
It will not show up on your GC balance, but it does on the order page.

Needless to say that amazon.com is the best place if you want to cancel your items, and get your money back, unlike buy.com who sucks donkey crap.

If the GC has expired, it won't show up in your next order.

If the GC has expired you have to call customer service and speak with a "specialist" to have them send you another. I recently did this when Amazon claimed THE DEVIL RIDES OUT was "indefinetly delayed" when in fact it was only postponed one more week til 8/1.

Do you mean Amazon would replace an expired GC? How long would the new GC be good for?

On the Amazon site it says you can't combine or cancel orders on-line if you have used a GC, so when i needed to cancel a DVD order I just called up CS and they cancelled the order and restored fixed my GC balance with no problem.

Unlike buy.com, whose CS rep refused to cancel my April preorder of 10th Victim (for June release) because it had gone to the warehouse. Now Amazon has 10th victim's release date as Jan 1 2001, so buy will get another call from me to cancel.

The Amazon GC's I get from Jaboom and Freeride have about a one year expiration date, so i dont worry about that. Nevertheless, I am curious about how they deal with GC's once they are in your account. First in first out like one of the IRS options for stock sales? Life is getting too complicated!!

Therefore I plan to zero out my balance during the Aug/Sept flurry of releases and take a couple bucks hit on my CC. This will be my strategy as long as Jaboom is willing to pay me $6.50 an hour.

You most certainly can cancel an order that uses a GC. However you cannot combine them.
The solution? "Pay" by cc, combine when shipping is near, and then apply the GC's.
