Re: The complaining about Amazon thread

More Echo/Amazon Music issues....
(yes, for my last one, when I requested the exact name of the song I knew I had, and it wasn't a weird name or some weird rights issue, it did play it.)

I used to be able to say "Alexa, play my music" or "Alexa, play my music from my library" and it would shuffle my entire Amazon music library (probably ~15k-20k songs, including a couple thousand that were purchased either digitally or via AutoRip from Amazon). Next, 'play song title' or 'play artist' all worked.

For the last few days -
"Alexa, play my music" returns "Sorry, I can't reach Amazon music right now" or "Sorry, I couldn't find any songs for you."
When I go to Amazon Music on the web (which I hate), it shows me my songs in "Songs", but under "Artists" and "Albums", it says 'You have not purchased any songs yet." If I go to Purchased, there's a big list of songs that I have purchased, including my last Autorip from a couple weeks ago.

I don't know if this is connectivity (my internet elsewhere is great, and Echo responds to other commands), Amazon Music server, or Amazon changing the commands or even worse, doing something with people's libraries. Anyone have this same problem, or suggestions?
If they remove the ability to play 'my' music, that would really suck. That's probably 80% of what I use Echos for (the remaining 20% is weather, shopping list, Jeopardy, home announcements, and the occasional video chat.)

I've noticed since the last PC app update when playing songs in library it will only play 1 song. Does not keep playing through my library like it used to do. Only 1 song and I have to push play on next song. Can't do shuffle or anything as it only plays 1 song. So odd. Hoping they fix that soon.

Re: The complaining about Amazon thread

I have an issue with my Amazon Visa Card points and gift card balance.

I called this morning to Amazon when I made a purchase using my earned points only, but to also have my gift card balance depleted by that purchase. I had earned around 35 dollars plus change in Amazon points this month from my credit card. I pre-ordered a movie this morning that came out to 27.12 after taxes. This left me with a balance of 8 dollars and change in earned points to spend. However, it also took the 9 dollars and one cent that I had in gift card balance despite selecting to have my payment come entirely from my points and not involve my gift card balance at all. I spent at least 20 minutes on the phone with Amazon this morning and told them that this could be a huge issue if they are depleting people's gift card balance on top of using their earned points for purchases. The CSR told me that this was a technical issue that they are working to fix. Well, how many purchases has this affected? Why am I currently out 9 dollars for an item that shouldn't be paid for from that balance. So, I'm potentially paying 36.13 for an item that should be 27.12 total. This isn't the first time I noticed my gift card balance disappearing when making purchases using points. I would suggest looking into your accounts if you feel like something similar has happened.

I haven't experienced anything like that, though I also haven't played music that's not spotify on alexa recently.

The recent layoffs have apparently gutted (or are about to gut) the alexa division so I'm curious what happens with it.

Today I had an empty, open mailer delivered. I figure if someone was going to steal the book I ordered they:
1. Would have just taken the package itself, or
2. Not have delicately opened the mailer without tearing it.

Anyway, Amazon is replacing it by Friday.

Technically this is isn't really a complaint, but this seems like the best place to put this. My deodarant is getting low, and I'm too lazy to stop by the Target that's 1/2 mile away. So I figured I'd order some off Amazon. I used their No-Rush shipping because I could use a couple of dollars of digital credit and we order from Amazon often enough I figured they'd just ship the deodorant with one of our other orders.

They did NOT send the deodorant with any of the other orders we made. They shipped it by itself via UPS from Des Moine, Iowa (I live in Maryland). Apparently, they also f---ed up the shipping label, because instead of going to Maryland, it went to Chicago. So my daily entertainment for the last few days has been checking the shipping status of a stick of men's deodorant as it makes its way around the midwest.

I sometimes do the no-rush credit deal when ordering from Amazon. They have never combined it with any other items and half the time I get it at the same speed as the regular Prime shipping. Now when I really need something quickly and choose the Prime shipping, I often get it late.

Re: The complaining about Amazon thread

Had a free trial of Prime (wanted to see the 49ers TNF game a couple weeks ago), so I decided to buy something from Amazon, since I had the 2-day shipping. It's raining daily locally, so decided to save myself a trip to the store.

Package arrived yesterday. Instead of placing the product inside a packing box, it was placed in a polybag (no bubble protection). The item's (manufacture) box was crushed. The item is a gift, so I can't check if the item is still good inside the box. These polybags are generally used for shipping clothing.

Definitely returning the item and this will be my last physical product purchase from Amazon (this isn't the first incident throughout the years). I don't mind digital purchases of course.

And now I'm going to the store to buy the item, instead of getting another one from Amazon. What a waste of time.

An order that was supposed to be here before Christmas, magically went missing with no time to re-order.

The order page stated I could request a refund, which I did by chatting with a CS rep. He said that it appears the package is lost, so he cancelled it and issued a refund.

All good with that, although annoyed at a couple missing gifts.

The main complaint? On the order it indicates "Customer refused delivery because order was previously cancelled."

Yeah, you lost the fucking package, but I guess it sounds better for Amazon to say the customer cancelled the order.

Amazon plays fast and loose with their shipping around the holidays. Stuff which almost never occurs the remaining eleven months happens all the time in December.

Had Amazon "Delivery" strike here again a couple days ago. I went down to the lobby to let the driver into the building since they think we live in friggin' Fort Knox. By that time I saw the "delivery" person exit the building on the other end of the lobby ( our building is two 7 story "towers" connected by the lobby ). I live in apartment 501, so I figured my package was in the other tower on the 5th floor. Sure enough, it was - at apartment 508. You know, because "501" & "508" look exactly the same. If I didn't meet the "delivery" person in our lobby 99% of the time I bet I wouldn't get 25% of what I order from them.

When I used to order from amazon the driver would deliver my package to my street address but in the town 45 minutes away from me. Happened more than half the time. Both towns start with an "S" so I can see how they would get confused.

Super annoying thing...

I had canceled my Prime membership recently, then a few weeks later I had placed an order for about 7 items, so I could get free shipping. I wasn't in too big a hurry. All items were in-stock and sold by amazon (no 3rd party items), they shipped one item pretty quickly, within a week, but then the remaining 6 won't ship for another 6 weeks! What the fuck is this?
Each item is still in stock and ready to ship. So why would they send one item on it's own and them wait a month and a half to ship the rest? And I can't cancel or switch shipping because of the free shipping "promotion" I got while ordering all at once.
Amazon's gotten so bad.

Kevin Phillips 01-03-23 06:45 AM

Re: The complaining about Amazon thread

I ordered a spool of large spool of cable from a seller on Amazon. It is not Prime. For shipping I had two options. I could get free shipping, and receive it on Friday the 6th, or I could pay $87 for expedited shipping and get it on Saturday, the 7th.

I think they mean the Friday delivery date was only an estimated date, and it could be much later. The Saturday delivery date was "guaranteed".

For those that used Amazon Smile, where a portion of the proceeds went to you choice of a charity, check your email. I received an email that the program that started in 2013 is closing down in February.
Spoiler:

Dear customer, In 2013, we launched AmazonSmile to make it easier for customers to support their favorite charities. However, after almost a decade, the program has not grown to create the impact that we had originally hoped. With so many eligible organizations—more than 1 million globally—our ability to have an impact was often spread too thin. We are writing to let you know that we plan to wind down AmazonSmile by February 20, 2023. We will continue to pursue and invest in other areas where we’ve seen we can make meaningful change—from building affordable housing to providing access to computer science education for students in underserved communities to using our logistics infrastructure and technology to assist broad communities impacted by natural disasters. To help charities that have been a part of the AmazonSmile program with this transition, we will be providing them with a one-time donation equivalent to three months of what they earned in 2022 through the program, and they will also be able to accrue additional donations until the program officially closes in February. Once AmazonSmile closes, charities will still be able to seek support from Amazon customers by creating their own wish lists. As a company, we will continue supporting a wide range of other programs that help thousands of charities and communities across the U.S. For instance:Housing Equity Fund: We’re investing $2 billion to build and preserve affordable housing in our hometown communities. In just two years, we’ve provided funding to create more than 14,000 affordable homes—and we expect to build at least 6,000 more in the coming months. These units will host more than 18,000 moderate- to low-income families, many of them with children. In one year alone, our investments have been able to increase the affordable housing stock in communities like Bellevue, Washington and Arlington, Virginia by at least 20%.Amazon Future Engineer: We’ve funded computer science curriculum for more than 600,000 students across over 5,000 schools—all in underserved communities. We have plans to reach an additional 1 million students this year. We’ve also provided immediate assistance to 55,000 students in our hometown communities by giving them warm clothes for the winter, food, and school supplies.Community Delivery Program: We’ve partnered with food banks in 35 U.S. cities to deliver more than 23 million meals, using our logistics infrastructure to help families in need access healthy food – and we plan to deliver 12 million more meals this year alone. In addition to our delivery services, we’ve also donated 30 million meals in communities across the country.Amazon Disaster Relief: We’re using our logistics capabilities, inventory, and cloud technology to provide fast aid to communities affected by natural disasters. For example, we’ve created a Disaster Relief Hub in Atlanta with more than 1 million relief items ready for deployment, our Disaster Relief team has responded to more than 95 natural disasters, and we’ve donated more than 20 million relief products to nonprofits assisting communities on the ground.Community Giving: We support hundreds of local nonprofits doing meaningful work in cities where our employees and their families live. For example, each year we donate hundreds of millions of dollars to organizations working to build stronger communities, from youth sport leagues, to local community colleges, to shelters for families experiencing homelessness. We’ll continue working to make a difference in many ways, and our long-term commitment to our communities remains the same—we’re determined to do every day better for our customers, our employees, and the world at large. Thank you for being an Amazon customer.

That doesn't surprise me. My charity has only received $800, with a whopping $17 from me. I was always a little amazed that Amazon had the program, let alone that there were so many options available.

Re: The complaining about Amazon thread

More and more and more items sold on amazon are from 3rd party sellers, and while they might ship with amazon, they are not sold directly by amazon. Which brings great fluctuations of price and quality.

My mother in-law ordered a gift for
my wife a couple weeks ago. It was a fairly large package, and the delivery driver left it at the road under the mailbox, rather than putting it on the porch. By the time she got home, of course it was stolen. She contacted Amazon and they saw the proof of delivery picture and said that was unacceptable, and sent out another. When it was delivered they left it in the same place! Luckily she was home and saw the delivery van, so walked up to the mailbox to get it.

as for my orders, seems every package that gets transferred to the USPS for final delivery is at least a day late, sometimes more…..sometimes lost.

Maybe it is not a big deal but annoying but I found the removable adhesive or the things they use to seal the envelopes or mailers still inside the packages.

Usually I assume they throw them out or place them in the garbage?

Quicker and cheaper to put them in the envelope. Most people don't even take them out of the envelope before they toss it.
Incidentally, I was supposed to get an amazon package on Saturday. Well, those fuckers are delivering it two days early today. How dare they?
