DVD/BDs at Grocery Stores

Does anyone actually buy discs at grocery stores?

When I'm at the store, I always see these completely full displays of some new release title. When I go back the next week, the display is still completely full.

The thing that gets me is *I* am the guy that would buy them. For some reason, they price them at $24.99 which is laughable. It seems these markets are losing an opportunity to move these things in volume. If they had new releases at a more reasonable price, say $14.99, I might buy them. I cannot imagine paying $25 for any disc any more let alone a movie I might watch twice. $14.99 is a stretch for me unless its a classic film that I must own. But grocery shopping involves a lot of impulse buying so chances are I might have bitten on some soon-to-be-forgotten movie like The Social Network.

I've bought fitness dvds at grocery & drug store displays, but they're usually better priced.

I think they would have to buy in bulk in order to offer it at a lower price. Grocery stores usually only buy a "one time buy" display of the new release and not reorder the title after their out.

Only bought stuff there when they had great low prices and closeouts...

for example... Search Kroger in the threads and you will see many...

In fact (and I couldn't find it right now)... they were carrying similar titles to Big Lots in late 2009... and for similar prices...
