Amazon Shipping Charges 10x for 10 items to same address??
Trying to order 10+ identical items from one seller on Amazon, shipping charges me full price once for EVERY item in the order.
Emailed seller and they wont budge. Is this against the rules for Amazon? |
Re: Amazon Shipping Charges 10x for 10 items to same address??
Are they separate transactions or can you order all 10 in one order?

Re: Amazon Shipping Charges 10x for 10 items to same address??
Looks like it's out of the hands of the seller:
"Amazon collects a per-item shipping fee from the buyer and passes it on to help cover your shipping costs." http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...nodeId=1161252 |
Re: Amazon Shipping Charges 10x for 10 items to same address??
Its the same item x 10, and they jack up $6.99 shipping x10 too.
Amazon just accepts this? |
Re: Amazon Shipping Charges 10x for 10 items to same address??
According to the quote Groucho posted above your last post, they not only "accept" it, they "created" it.

Oh well. I guess they used to be proud to be 'not ebay'

That's why for the most part I don't like the Amazon Marketplace.

Re: Amazon Shipping Charges 10x for 10 items to same address??
Yeah, it's always been like that. Sometimes you will get a seller who is sympathetic and will refund you some of the excess shipping charges after you make the purchase. However, more often than not the seller will just pocket the extraneous shipping charges as extra profit.

Emailed seller and they wont budge. Is this against the rules for Amazon? Why would anyone want 10 of anything, except to take advantage of a low-ball price and re-sell them, or run some kind of refund scam at another store? (and don't say they're gifts). In the case of low-ballers, the shipping charges are all the profit the seller will make. No sympathy here. And anyone complaining about not getting something for nothing is not a customer I'd want, anyway. Not worth risking negative feedback or a refund trying to please someone who can't be pleased. |

ps- spare me the eye-rolling emoticon. You're not bright enough to patronize me. |
Re: Amazon Shipping Charges 10x for 10 items to same address??
You sell the item to cover costs and make a profit. Shipping is a reimbursement to the seller.
This isn't even up for discussion. If you list an item at a loss to increase exposure, you're an asshole. If you buy a cheap item just to get screwed by shipping charges, you're an idiot. The Free Market runs (and dies) on both. Congratulations. |

You don't think it plausible for someone setting up a 50+ gallon aquarium to buy 10 bags of gravel? If you're painting a house, *gasp*, you may buy a bunch of cans of paint! It's not at all out of the realm of possibilities for someone to buy 10 of something to use for themselves. If you need a list of more examples, I can provide. |

Re: Amazon Shipping Charges 10x for 10 items to same address??
As a seller on Amazon, I can tell you that their entire shipping system is kind of a pain in the ass.
1. For the DVD's I have for sale (approximately 2000 of 'em), Amazon standardizes the shipping at $2.98. To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to have Amazon "consolidate" shipping. For the few people who ever bought multiple DVD's from me, I just either shipped them seperately, or gave a partial refund for the difference. 2. For everything else (I have some evap coolers on there, for example), they have you fill out a complicated "table", which reflects your shipping charges. For example, the first pound is, say $10. And then you enter a value for each additional pound. And you have to replicate that for each shipping service. |

You're not bright enough to patronize me. let me do a top 5 list of items I would buy 10 or more of. 5: Notebook paper (esp. when school starts or after Christmas break when you have 3 kids) 4: HDMI cables.... I bought 8 just the other day, but I can see how you would buy 10 or more, especially when all your family needs HDMI cables, and they are so cheap on amazon. 3: Candy... around Christmas, Easter, Halloween... 2: Condoms.... -other- 1: pregnancy test... especially if seller refuses to cut you a deal on shipping when you buy 10 or more.. Of course Save Ferris may be evil, and plan on selling something he did not make with his own two hands, unlike all the third party sellers on amazon who obviously do, because NO ONE on amazon sells anything they bought from someone else...god forbid. |

How much are we actually talking? How much for the item? And how much is the shipping per item? Is it that good of a deal that you really want to mess with buying from the guy? |
Re: Amazon Shipping Charges 10x for 10 items to same address??
Shipping shouldn't be profit, but Amazon's commissions are crazy, unless he's a power seller. Per item flat rate, variable transaction fee, and variable listing fee, I think. And about half the time the shipping credit didn't even fully cover shipping, when I sold stuff.
I have sympathy for both sides - but that's the policy. If you can ship something for much less than the shipping credit, and it's shipped via the appropriate rate [ie, if the customer paid for Expedited, you can't ship Media Mail], it's well within the policy. 10x shipping would probably be more profitable than 1x shipping, true, but the seller is under no moral or ethical obligation to refund any part of those shipping costs. |
Re: Amazon Shipping Charges 10x for 10 items to same address??
Sorry, I thought this thread died.
The items cost about $7 and the shipping is about $6 so $70 +$60 shipping isnt going to happen. The guy lost my sale, I'm going to find my items elsewhere. The price was cheaper than average. They usually cost about $10 but there was no way in hell Id agree to get screwed on shipping. Just as principle, Id rather pay more than feel like a sucker duped into paying multiple shipping. |
