Re: the remodeled Best Buy...
I was in a few recently and had noticed the dvd sections were down to maybe 60-70% of what they used to be and were much more compressed (was constantly bumping into people). It was unpleasant and makes me not really want to go anymore. What other stores have big DVD sections?

The only stores around Northern California I've seen with large DVD sections are Fry's Electronics and Rasputin Music. Even places like Amoeba Music in Berkeley have been downsizing their New/Used stock. I don't blame them. Keeping all that inventory in the store when it isn't selling is silly. |
Re: the remodeled Best Buy...
My local Best Buy had a great DVD/Blu Ray section.
They also recently did the re-model, and it's fucking terrible! It reminded me of Circuit City and how everything was shown "face out" with no spines showing. Impossible to find anything, and also very very easy for items to be misplaced. |
Re: the remodeled Best Buy...
The DVD/Blu section at my Best Buy has looked like a garage sale gone bad for over a month now. I think they're trying to organize it somehow, but I'm not sure why it's taking them so long. No rhyme or reason how things are currently organized. The last two times in the store I've had to ask an employee to find something for me.

I used to go to BB on occasion to browse the cd section, and would often buy some stuff on the spur of the moment. The new racks make browsing impossible, so my trips to BB will only occur when I have something specific to buy.

Re: the remodeled Best Buy...
I'm so glad I came upon this thread. This really is a turn for the worst. I really never understood all the hate that Best Buy got as a chain store, but now I would feel any complaint to be justified. The worst thing you can do is make your merchandise hard to find, and that's exactly what they've done. I feel like they've pretty much just guaranteed I'll be doing all my future shopping on Amazon...

Amazon should thank Best Buy for my business

Re: the remodeled Best Buy...
I went into mine yesterday for the first time since it was "re-modeled" and it was clear to me that their strategy for the whole thing was to cram as much shit into the store as possible. Between the numerous end-caps, the floor displays, and the narrowness of the aisles it's horrible. The comment about the maze was spot on, but I think a maze may have a little more space. WalMart looks more organized compared to this.

Re: the remodeled Best Buy...
I don't know if it's a 'cram as much shit as possible together' strategy... although it certainly seems that way when it comes to DVD's and Blu-ray's... I just think they're trying to make their store more about the electronics and less about the 'everything' entertainment. They want to sell their TV's and their mp3 players and their e-readers and computers, etc.
It's awful though. |
Re: the remodeled Best Buy...
Count me in as another one who almost never goes to Best Buy anymore since the remodel. I could never find anything I was looking for.
In October I bought an Amazon Prime membership, which guarantees that I receive preordered Blu-rays and DVDs on release day. I just don't see the need for the frustration of Best Buy. |
Re: the remodeled Best Buy...
Guess I'm odd man out but I don't find the remodeled Best Buy all that confusing. Instead of the dvd's/blu's being right next to the entrance it's now a straight walk down and to the left. Maybe it helps that I only buy from BB if it's a new release and those aren't hard to find. I guess I could see a catalogue title being a different story.

Re: the remodeled Best Buy...
Interesting thing I saw today - they're taking up a portion of the store and putting in a Pacific Sales, which sells home appliances (in this case, through Best Buy) at near wholesale prices. This is a good move, as all the shit they're getting rid of on the floor can be sold much easier online.

The new layout isn't confusing, it's a pain in the ass.
