Oldies.com

Has anyone ordered from Oldies.com? How reliable are they?

I've ordered from them several time and had no problems ever. Everything was in stock and shipped on time, packaged well and the prices were reasonable. I would order from them again.

the only downside is they spam your mailbox with unwanted catalogs.

You all made me realize that I hadn't received a catalog in a while. Wonder if I fell off their list. But yes, I've ordered from them with no problems.

I ordered several times, never had a problem and I actually like getting their newsprint catalog every few weeks (but like Cardsfan, I haven't received one in a while.).

I also like receiving their catalog by mail. It's easier to see skim through the titles they carry than their site. It reminds me of a 1980s mail order catalog before the internet. I just received a huge horror catalog from them a few days ago.

Most of the DVDs I have ordered from them are returns from other retailers. The last order I made from them had price tags from Best Buy and Wal-Mart on them. They were sealed and in very good condition but it was obvious that they had been passed around.

I just received the regular newspaper catalog and for the first time a 70 page (with a glossy cover) Horror catalog.

Do their WB titles have slashes through the bar codes?

I'm thinking of placing my first ever order with Oldies.com

I did a forum search and in the past there were complaints
about poor packaging. Anyone order from them in the last few
weeks and if so how was the packaging. I'm looking at ordering
just one dvd for starters. But packaging is a real deal breaker for
me. Thanks indvance for any info.

Its been awhile for me but as I recall it was in an envelope but I do not remember if it was padded. The product I ordered had a slash or hole through the bar code. Also, as I recall, if you order multiple items they might ship them separatley and charge full shipping charges for each item. I only ordered from them once.

I've ordered from them a few times. Usually everything comes safe and sound. The one time I had a problem though, their customer service left a lot to be desired. Eventually everything was straightened out. Keep in mind that a lot of their stock shows up a Big Lots. However, if you don't feel like hunting, this is the way to go.

I only order from them if it's something difficult to find. If an item number begins with the letter Z it's limited quantities and once gone, it's gone. Seems everything I always want from them is a Z so I place orders by phone to check they still have it. Never had a problems.

Re: Oldies.com

I wanted to order an album from them off Amazon (an actual vinyl record). But their Amazon listing didn't make it clear if it was the regular black vinyl or the limited-edition pink vinyl. I used Amazon's "Ask the Seller a Question" thingy, and they responded in around 40 minutes, even though it was 7pm hour on a Saturday.

The album was shipped the following Monday and was packaged well, but was a corner of the sleeve was dinged (enough to upset me, but not enough to make me want to return it). There were a couple of other issues inside the sleeve, but the record was sealed, so that's not their fault.

Re: Oldies.com

I've ordered a few times but had an issue with an item that was out of stock and they didn't tell me until I sent an email asking where that item was, after I got the other one. Then they told me to wait. A couple weeks later I asked if it was in yet, they said no.

I waited about 3 more weeks and asked again. Then they're like, "Oh yeah, that's been in for awhile. We'll ship it out soon."

So basically, if I didn't keep asking about it, I wouldn't have gotten it.

I order from their mail order catalog fairly regularly and have had good experiences.

Glad to see there are still folks who enjoy a good print catalog!

I like it to. It's nice to have something physical to look at and mark up or just to bring in the bathroom to use for nefarious purposes.

heh - I love getting the Edward R. Hamilton Bookseller catalog. I don't think I've ordered from them in 15 years, have no idea how they found me at my new address, and only use their catalog to help me find new stuff from the library... but it's still fun to read.

Glad to hear it--we have a DVD only catalog now too! Hope you've seen that one.

I'll take a good print catalog over an online catalog any day. It's easier and quicker to use. I almost always find something in a print catalog I'd have completely missed had I been searching/browsing online.

Re: Oldies.com

I used to order a lot of stuff from this one particular catalog. I haven't seen it in 15 years, but I thought maybe someone could help me remember the name. It was like a gift shop in a museum, only slightly less "arty", a much broader selection, and reasonable prices. Over the years, I ordered a variety of stuff from them, including:

- A London Underground coffee mug
- A Rum Runner t-shirt*
- A packet of the last Soviet-era paper currency
- A couple of eclectic games, like a Punto deck from Italy and an Aussie dice game

After the fall of the Soviet Union, they had tons of Soviet stuff, like old propaganda posters, Soviet watches, etc. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

* - the Rum Runner was the nightclub in Birmingham, England where Duran Duran got their start. This place had a small selection of reproduction t-shirts from cool bars and clubs all over the world. It was the first place I remember seeing an CBGBs t-shirt for sale.
