Why don't places like Amazon stock porn?
I mean it's not a B&M. Why not carry EVERYTHING? Didn't Walmart or someone try selling coffins at one time? The funeral homes probably went apeshit because Walmart would make them look bad by selling them for half the price and still turn a profit. I bet porn would be cheaper if Amazon/Walmart.com/DD/etc stocked it. Do people really pay $50 for blu-rays at those other sites? jesus.

1. They fear bad publicity. You can bet that the "family values" crowd would throw a tantrum if leadering retailers started stocking "Weapons of Ass Destruction." If Wal-Mart started selling porn, you can bet that every fucking church with fifty miles would be picketing the place.
2. There's also probably a concern that these could run afoul of obscenity laws. Places like Amazon run the risk of getting hit with federal prosecutions for selling through the mail, and brick and mortar stores run the risk of getting slapped with charges on the local level.

They don't. They had a close call in the Rob Black/Extreme Associates bust about six years ago. And just a few days ago they plead guilty to an obscenity charge over some fetish-related dvds stemming from a 2007 raid, and are paying a $75,000 fine and getting three years probation.
Following the Extreme case, they have become very selective about what they carry, and have avoided offering this like Max Hardcore/JM type material.
DVDEmpire is also a privately held company and doesn't have near the name recognition of a Wal-Mart or Amazon, so there are no shareholders to spook.

Who the hell buys porn anyway? It's everywhere online.
I'm sure Amazon looks at it that way too. Sure, they could stock it, but the sales they'd get wouldn't be worth the backlash it would cause.

Amazon does sell some stuff that is probably porn or porn-like.
If you search for "The Unusuals" (the ABC show that was canned), click the link to the product, then go back to the main page, almost every time I've searched for it, this little beauty shows up in the list of "More Items to Consider" on the main page.

I'm pretty sure that DVD Empire has a page with a list of where they can't ship (there's a couple of states) and some zip codes that don't allow it.

I think we should all immediately search for Good Burger after viewing this so we can get the page to say customers who were interested in that movie were also interested in Good Burger, and hopefully vice versa!

*AHEM* I prefer my porn with high quality picture and sound!
Anyways, when I worked for Tower.com before the company went under, I asked why they didn't sell porn online since their stores had it. Reason given was that they had no reliable way to verify someone's age when placing an order and could get in trouble for sending porn to someone underage, so they just didn't carry it online to avoid that hassle. In the stores of course they could just check IDs.

Sorry for the hijack but this has sort of response has become extremely annoying so I'll answer it. Simply put, because I like to see certain porn stars and searching for them on the Interwebs, especially on the free sires is a migrane inducing pain in the butthole, due to the everpresent viruses which invariabley turn up but more importnatly because if you are looking for a certain porn star you inevitably have to scroll through pages and pages of the worng chicks or chicks mislabled as the one you're looking for.

I find it very inconvenient to have to buy the extended version of Rambo on Blu ray and Men Alone 2: The KY Connection from different stores. I could have even gotten free super saver shipping.
Come on Amazon, get with the program.

Re: Why don't places like Amazon stock porn?
I have most of the porn titles released on HD-DVD, since I'm collecting everything in that format. Detail is very good, but most of the ones released were directed by "Robby D" who apparently likes to use that awful 'filmlook' processing, where stuff shot on video is given a slower frame rate. He doesn't seem to like using music either.

You know how your grandma doesn't know how to use the Internet? That's who buys the porn.
She just doesn't know any better until you go over and teach her. Printed instructions in a very large font, is suggested to avoid the late night phone calls for tech support.

I avoid this hassle by making and starring in my own porn, which cuts out the middleman (no pun intended).
