Hollywood Video Store Closing Sale - Post Your Finds!

I hit up two Hollywood Video locations in the Northern, VA area yesterday - They have marked all older catalog titles $9.99 w/ 60% making them $3.99 per title. I picked up the following titles:

Everything was in EXCELLENT shape (i guess these titles didn't rent) and Blockbuster was selling new DVD cases for $.05 ea. so i picked up enough to swap out the inserts..

One in my around area (Jenkintown, PA) is closing and it was pretty bare. Believe me, I looked for gems and found pretty much nothing. I did find Cannibal! The Musical but left it sitting there.

I've hit up four that are closing in Ohio and didn't find much at all.

The best I found was Air Guitar Nation for $4. No Criterions or rare dvds.

I picked up a couple of catalog titles at $5.99 and hid a few more to wait until they dropped lower. I got Ebony Ivory & Jade, Black Mama White Mama, Coffy, and The Wild Angels. I was very surprised, also, that they seemed as if they never rented...discs seemed new. Are most Blockbusters selling those new dvd cases for 5 cents?

I checked a local Hollywood Video a few weeks ago, but they only had stuff on sale for 20% off. Nothing too good. I did consider buying some of their DVD racks though.

The Movie Gallery near me (Pawtucket, RI) was closing up and had all their DVDs 75% off and Buy 5 get the 6th for a penny. My girlfriend and I each picked up three and my roommate bought 12. I ended up snagging:

Steven Wright: When the Leaves Blow Away
Murderball
Fay Grim

for about $6. Not too shabby considering Fay Grim goes for about $20 new everywhere else.

I checked one nearby store, but there wasn't too much left. After seeing the agressive way the employees were consolidating the stock (throwing it at each other, etc.), I decided I really didn't need any of the stuff I found. It had probably been consolidated multiple times up to that point, and none of those movies were must-haves for me, so I walked away. I was innitially hoping for a haul like the first guy! Way to go on that!

I went a couple of weeks ago and picked up quite a few criterions myself. One thing though. Those red Hollywood Video stickers on the spine are NOT easy to get off. You will do a little damage even with goo gone and a little patience. And none of mine had inserts but for the price I can't complain.

My friend told me a HV nearby was closing so we both stopped by a couple nights ago. They had some pretty good prices: horror for $2.99, others for $4.99 and newer ones for $7.50. I got:

A History of Violence, Brokeback Mountain, The Life of David Gale, The Big Chill, Beautiful Girls, Dummy, The Mothman Prophecies, Running Scared, and Million Dollar Baby for about $43.

I'm thinking about stopping back later tonight because they said they lower prices pretty frequently.

I know the one in Vienna has "Store Closing" signs all over the front.

No, it's something like 500, tied into Movie Gallery recently filing for bankruptcy.

I'm amazed at how many dvdtalkers are in the N. Va area. Never realized it until I moved up here last December. Its nice to have a network in the area to alert me of sales, rare finds, etc. - but its also a lot of competition when it comes to sales, rare finds, etc.

Oh, and if you're curious just try googling "list of Hollywood video stores closing (insert area here)" I found a list for my state and the closest is kind of far away, but I'll try to get there before all the good stuff is gone.

Yea, good find. Unfortunately, you appear to be the only one. Me and the GF went a week ago and didn't find anything even remotely closed to a deal. In fact I almost wasted money for a title I found elswhere a day later for a third of their price.

The three locations closing in the Northern, VA area are BURKE, VIENNA and DC (i think might be closed already)... though everything is very picked through at this point.

The only store closing in the Boston area was Malden, MA and that place didn't have ANY Criterons. I did find a lot of Out of Print New Concorde titles, and a lot of Full Moon titles.

What's the story with the New Concorde and Full Moon titles?
