Re: Best Buy taking away Reward Zone points!

Just got a response:

Thank you for taking the time to contact Best Buy with regards to your Rewards Zone Account. I apologize for the confusion and thank you so much for voicing your concern. I will be happy to explain why your points were taken away. Every year we have what we call a annual flush. This means that the points that you have on the account from purchases made from January to December of 2009 are converted to certificates down to the $5 dollar level. Any points less than 250 will be forfeited. I sincerely apologize about your points being forfeited. You worked hard to earn those points and I would like to help you reap the benefit of those points. I am adding 500 points back to your account. 242 for the amount that was forfeited and 258 for the frustration that this issue has caused. I hope that I have fully addressed your concern today. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us again via email or you can all us 888-237-8289. Thank you for shopping with Best Buy.
Meh. I didn't really want the points. I'll redeem this one and probably toss the card. One less card bulking up my wallet. One less customer they get to track.

If you don't want to carry the card you can always either have them just look up your membership when you check out or add the purchases through the website after the fact.

Re: Best Buy taking away Reward Zone points!

The whole worthlessness of the program aside, I must admit that I have been overly pleased with the PERSONAL responses I have received from the Reward Zone Customer Care Team via email. Not once has a response felt like a form response.

During the same time points were removed, I had another issue (essentially, I did two returns, lost the points, but didn't get the points back for putting the return value on gift cards so I could purchase more movies - you earn points when the gift cards are issued, not used). They asked that I wait until the system maintenance was complete and to contact them again if nothing was showing to counteract the negative 35 points.

I wrote to them yesterday (responding to my original email from the start of February). One of the movies in question was The Hangover (I returned the original one to buy the special 2 disc version, that was not in stock at Christmas time). The response I got actually had in it, "Did you like the Hangover? I heard it was a really good movie."

Anyway, they are crediting me 250 points ... 35 for the original ones plus 215 to "earn back my trust." So, I didn't get any bonus points for the original forfeiture problem (like many here have), but they gave me some bonus ones for this issue.

All in all, I am pleased ... they made things right by me twice.

I'm glad that you had good customer service, but I would still be a little unnerved that they know my purchase history so readily... but maybe that'll help them tailor their service to you a bit better.

Re: Best Buy taking away Reward Zone points!

I lost my points so I contacted customer care with the below message...

The decision to change this program to an annual one was a big mistake. I'm no big spender but I do purchase several hundred dollars worth of DVDs yearly and an occasional big ticket item. I was just going to cancel my membership but I thought I would contact customer care to see what could be done. I request you reinstate my $146.15 in forfeited points and revert back to a non-annual program. Otherwise, I will just cancel my membership and take my business elsewhere, it's simply not worth dealing with. Thank you for your time and attention.
I then received this response later that day...

I'm so sorry for your frustration with our new process and I understand completely how you feel about your points being deducted. The good news is that I have re-applied your points and added in an additional 100 points for the trouble. These points will take up to 5 days to post.
With the bonus, I will have 246 points plus another 30 or so points which should post from recent purchases. I will take my $5 certificate and then never look back. This program is too much trouble just to receive an occasional $5 or $10 certificate.

I mostly just buy sale DVDs from Best Buy anyways. I will go in to checkout a planned purchase first hand but I almost always find a better deal online. Between Newegg and Amazon you can rarely go wrong.

Isn't that the whole point of these cards? Why wouldn't they know?

But then again you're not off base because that's also the major complaint of Privacy Advocates when it comes to these stores "club cards".

I'm still wondering why thus far no one has offered me extra points to go with my original lost points. I was nice in my e-mails and now I'm thinking I should've been a dick....

Me too...I was happy when I got my points back, everyone else is getting bonus points.
I don't mind them (or any store) having my purchase history, or sending me targeted offers based on that info. I don't want them to be sharing that information though.

Darn, I had gotten an email earlier today that had my RZ point total as 160487 points ($3205 in reward certificates*). But they realized their mistake unfortunately :(

Yeah, that sucks. When I e-mailed them, I was polite but said I would never shop Best Buy again (which of course is a huge lie. I have no choice, there are no other electronics stores around here).

They credited me twice the amount I lost.

I've purchase items without using my RZ card for this reason. It was a gift for my wife and I didn't want her to look online and see the purchase through myrz.com or see one of those "Congrats on your latest purchase" e-mails they like to send out.

You can add the purchase and get points later by sending your receipt pin through the website.

My points are still there.

Also, noticed that a $90 certificate I had used back in November but they never scanned because it wouldn't scan, is still active.

For the record, there is NO record online of it being used. Soooo.....I will just consider them, on my last purchase, giving me a 90 dollar discount. Thanks Best Buy!

I just received an email back and they credited me my original points back as well 163. NO bonus points for me, but atleast I am getting them back. :(

It did say in the email this is a 1-time courtesy.

I've had that happen also, spent a certificate more than once. They eventually deducted the amount from future purchases.

Same thing happened to me. They said I had a $525 certificate ready but it was really only a $5 one. they caught the mistake before a certificate was issued.

Not only did Best Buy restore the $5 that I "forfeited" at the end of last year, they restored the $20 of RZ certificates I pointed out to them that I didn't get around to using from the middle of last year.

Re: Best Buy taking away Reward Zone points!

You used to be able to spend like $1,000 at Best Buy and get like $50 in certs. Now you spend the same amount, and you get $20.

I lost close to 200 points but never called or emailed. As others have said, I rarely shop at Best Buy. I bought my laptop there, and a couple movies that were cheap, and that's about it in the last six months or so.

The certificates are a joke, too. I had a $10 and a $5, and wanted to buy a $12.99 Blu-ray. It came to $14.xx with tax, and they wouldn't let me use the $5 one until I was over $15. I had to buy two sodas to finally be able to use it, at which point I owed $1.51.

Re: Best Buy taking away Reward Zone points!

Seems like the expiration date window on certs keeps getting smaller as well.

Re: Best Buy taking away Reward Zone points!

I shop there maybe once every other month.. so i've never received a "reward" from the reward zone club.
