Blockbuster Rental Charges State-By-State?
The following quote is a DVDTalk reenactment:
After reading enough conflicting posts about Blockbuster Video's rental charges, I'd like posters to list where they've rented and the local Blockbuster rental policy for non-new releases.
I'll start with AZ (where I live) and CT (where I recently visited).
AZ (Phoenix): $1 for 5 days
CT (Meriden): $1 per day, or $4 for 5 days.
A: Blockbuster's rental fees are a ripoff
B: Are you insane?! $1 for 5 days is pretty decent.
A: You must live on another planet, assclown, Blockbuster charges $1 per day.
B: I ought to Blockbust your ass.

It's not just state by state where there's changes. Smaller stores in a city tend to cost more than larger ones in the same city.

I wish it were $1. At my store in Atlanta it is $4.99 for a 2 day new release and $3.99 for a 7 day catalog movie. I thought I was doing well with $1.99 coupons.
When I go there more often then not I'll buy a used movie for $3.99 instead of renting a new one.

Hmm.
A few weeks ago I asked the local clerk about BB's rental pricing & told her how in CT it was $1 per day/$4 for 5 days. She said the Phoenix locations were actually planned to change to these rental fees, but at the last minute the corporate guys told them "never mind" & so here they stuck to $1 for 5 days.

The 5 day/daily option for rentals is in test market areas right now. I live in Kansas City and we are one. It hasn't rolled out nationally yet, but I understand if it does well in the test market areas this is the way it will go for all stores.
And you don't have to pay the dollar per day. If you rent a five day rental for five days, yes...it's $5.00 for that rental, but you get the grace period of five days after it's due to get it back with no additional fees.
People will hate Blockbuster no matter what, and I supposed they could give you free rentals and people would find a way to whine about that as well. But when the brand new new releases cost $5.00 for two days and you had no option, $2.50 for a day of $5.00 for five days on a new release isn't that bad.
And Redbox charges you a dollar per day. And try arguing with the vending machine when you want to dispute your charges and get them knocked in half or taken off. Good luck with that.

Re: Blockbuster Rental Charges State-By-State?
i work for blockbuster and my rentals are 4.69 for all new releases, old releases are 99 cents. we were going to change to the awesome $1 for a movie plan, but last second they decided to change up. we are still at the 4.69 plan and are told we will get a new plan set up, but each district of blockbuster might get their own plans.
as for the stores that are close by that have different prices, if there is a competitor around, the prices will be lower for the blockbuster store near them.
so there you go.

favorites are $3.99 + in one and $4.99 + in the other.

I live in KC as well and BB's new pricing policy is fantastic for me. I got the Rewards program for free, and I'm watching a lot of tv shows, so when I go in on Monday-Wednesday I'm getting them 2 for $1. After I pay for 5, I get a new release for free. Basically I'm getting 11 rentals for $5.
