Is paying late fees surprising?

I was curious about something, for those who would know, has anyone ever came into a rental store to pay the late fees, that is it, they were in town and just stopped by to take care of the late fees because they could not get the movie it the day before.

It appears they almost looked surprised, never thought anything about it at the time, movies were late, so take care of the fees.

(Placing this topic here for now)

All I ever hear is people having to deal with people saying the movie was not late while trying to rent another film, thinking back funny how surprised someone appears to get when someone comes in and says they want to pay their late fees.

Re: Is paying late fees surprising?

I was all prepared to pay a Blockbuster "restocking fee" that I owed from last summer when I rented a game this past February. The clerk told me nothing was showing on the computer. Although it had been 7 months between visits and their prices had increased by $1 and the location I originally would rent from had gone out of business.

Re: Is paying late fees surprising?

I'll admit to having a couple of experiences years ago when Blockbuster would tell me I had late fees when I knew I had returned the movie(s) on time. I usually own up immediately when I'm late with something. I check a lot of movies/books out from the library. If I bring them in a day late (happened twice I think), I go to the counter then and ask how much I owe so I can take care of it.

Re: Is paying late fees surprising?

I'm not really sure what the op is going for going to try to guess. If I returned a movie late, I paid the late fees. The only time I ever got charged late fees for a movie I didn't return late, was when Blockbuster charged me late fees for movies I never even rented. It was the last time I ever set foot in a Blockbuster.

I then switched to Hollywood's MVP, which didn't really have late fees, and then finally to Netflix.

This was around eight years ago, now days with Netflix or redbox there is no need to pay crazy rental prices.

I'm curious, what made you think of posting this eight years later?

Random thoughts and something I read about late people not paying late fees.

With Redbox the late fee is automatically charged to your credit card. But it's only $1 per day so it's not a huge deal if you are a day late returning a movie.
