Amazon Exclusives?

Can anyone explain the reason for an "Amazon Exclusive"?

I am not referring to the blockbuster movies or TV Series that they have exclusive editions on from time-to-time. I can understand the reasoning behind those.

But take this one for example:

Is there a big "Crusades" based movie due out or something?

All stores have strange exclusives fairly regularly.

I guess someone in one of the involved marketing departments thought it sounded like a good idea.

I think some of the Amazon exclusives are limited runs (sometimes even DVD-R) of things they didn't want to print mass market runs on.

Amazon had recently Caligula and The Kiss of the Spider Woman Blu-rays as exclusive items for around 3-4 months and then other stores are able to sell them. The example above is something I expect to see later at every other retail store.
