Secondspin sent me a pirated DVD - Please advise
I ordered Borat's Widescreen DVD from secondspin.com around a month back. I received the shipment just now and quite shockingly it turned out to be a bootleg/pirated version. Right from the outer cover which is totally in Russian and a poorly photo-copied colorized version, to the actualy case which looks absolutely fake. Inside there was a cheap looking DVD-R with BORAT written manually using a black ink permanent marker.
I'm thinking of bringing this to the notice of concerning authorities. I have purchased from secondspin several times before but never had any complaints but this time they've totally crossed the limits by sending me a pirated title ! Please advise me whom should i contact regarding this. Thanks Punit. |
You should contact SecondSpin. They're pretty good from what I've read with problems. I'm sure they will take care of it.

Before you contact second spin, you should take a look at some of the photos users have placed on Amazon to make sure. The Borat DVD was made to look like a bootleg on purpose.

Yep. Try looking at this thread:

This is how the DVD and case is supposed to look:

I'm not sure whether this is a joke thread or not.
If so, good one! If not, well, that's a good one too! |

LOL when I first rented Borat and saw the way the disc looked I couldn't stop laughing. Now this thread has me laughing again!

The slipcover is in English, the dvd artwork inside is in Russian or whatever language it is. |
I would definitely contact customer service. They are trying to rip you off!

Oh, man. People are still unaware of the deal with Borat's DVD package? The conceit continues all the way thru the disc's extras, all of which are totally in character. No commentary; no "Meet Sasha Baron Cohen" featurette; nothing but Borat doing stuff. If someone doesn't get the whole joke of the "bootleg" presentation, then they are highly unlikely to understand the movie.

Want an apple for your High Horse?:p Joke thread or not it's very funny. |
LOL... don't feel bad. I rented this one from a brick/mortar store, got in my car, opened the case, and went back into the store to let them know it was a bootleg. They grinned and told me it was for real.
Once I saw the movie, I had to totally laugh at myself hysterically. |
Why would a DVD-R say "widescreen" on it?

If I remember correctly, the fullscreen version was all in russian, and the widescreen had english, or, maybe it was the other way around? I can't remember...or, it was if it came with a slipclover, the slipcover was in english, the DVD's case in the other language. It was something like that, I used to work for best buy, so, I remember seeing that and laughing, but, now I can't remember what it was. Anyways, the DVD's legit lol. |
