from where can dvds can be purchased earlier?
Hi,
What I can't understand is that movies, for example..... such as 'Next' it will be released on the 25th of this month and it is already for rent in many shops and it is original!
So is there a place where dvds can be purchased earlier?
Regards,
Miniman

All I can tell you is go to a mom and pop type dvd store. They break street to get a heads up on the big boys who sell them at lower prices on release day.

can the retailers really get fined if they sell a title earlier? or is that just a scare tactic? i remember going to best buy and they had how i met your mother: season one out on their shelves the sunday prior to street date. i went to purchase it, but i wanted them to match the price that was in their ad (i should've just bought it and price matched later, i know) but when the manager came over, they said i couldn't buy it because it wasn't yet released and that they would get fined. he said the would hold the item for me until tuesday if i wanted but they couldn't sell it.
i was kinda pissed because it's not MY fault they put it out earlier. why shouldn't i be allowed to purchase something that was out on the floor? but back to my question: if they're so scared of fines, how do the mom-and-pop stores break street all the time without problems. do studios only keep track of the big four sales? or like i said, is said fine a scare tactic?

It isn't that you can get fined in the sense of a monetary penalty, what happens if you break street date and it gets back to your distributor either via the studios or some other method, you won't be allowed to pick up your movies from the distributor until the actual street date which is a real pain for most video stores.
I have only heard of this happening a few times, it isn't very common for people to get caught, especially all the little mom and pop stores that are out there.
I own a video store and I usually get my movies the Wednesday or Thursday the week before. This allows me to get all the movies prepped for rental, plus put all the display boxes out saying Available on Tuesday so that customers know what is coming out when they browse for titles on the weekend prior.
