DeepDiscount: Another broken DVD case
Yeah, so I ordered a single disc and what do you know, I get an envelope with a cracked case. Thanks DeepDiscount! Those bubbly envelopes are only good for entertaining a 4-year old when you pop the bubble wrap.
You guys need to change your shipping methods, ASAP! No more orders from me until you do. I'm now revising some orders for Amazon since they ship in a box.

This has popped up in the DVD Planet thread, but I received two dvds today from DD in a padded envelope. I'm glad to say there was no damage.
Maybe DD can counter broken cases with some sort of case replacement program instead of having to have people send back everything (whomever having to eat the cost) Maybe like a once a month send out cases to people who have reported broken ones. (And obviously some sort of formula/way to prevent fraud, but obviously not every single dvd will have a broken case.) Going back to the boxes would surely help but maybe in the long run, even with sending out replacement cases, they could still be make money, and make the customer happy. Obviously box sets and the like could use boxes, but regular cases could go with the padded route. Also maybe using padded envelopes that are more fit to what they're sending out so there's no extra room could help if they're intention is to keep padded envelopes, or if they're big, maybe fold it over or something and tape it so it forms kind of double protection. Just some random thoughts..

Yeah, I'm going to send them a polite email, requesting they do not ship my DVDs in an envelope. I'm certainly NOT going to buy box sets from them unless they inform me that my box sets are going to be boxed and protected.
Padded envelopes are great for some products, but for Once Upon A Time In The West, that I received, the envelope just cannot prevent other packages hitting it, from being cracked. Throw the envelope around the room and it will do just fine, but against other heavy objects, there's no protection.
I have some superglue and will try to fix the crack on the case. Also, what doesn't help is the older two-disc cases which were very strong, have been replaced by a company called Scanavo. These are THEE absolute cheapest mf'ers I've ever seen. I had to replace some of my Star Trek two-disc editions and found out these horrible cases replaced the newer two-disc editions.

Oh great, I have enough problems with floaters from them when they ship in boxes.
There's no way the short trek from Chicago to Milwaukee should almost always produce loose, damaged discs.

How much are they saving from this change I wonder. It must be enough to make it worthwhile to them and bear in mind that only a very small percentage of people who receive a damaged case are likely to take the time to report it and seek a replacement.

my last shipment from dvdplanet came in a box (sorry, my third post mentioning this!). hopefully, they (dvdplanet and deepdiscount) have taken customer feedback to heart.
