I don't know about anyone else, but I've had some hard times finding their phone numbers, especially here in GA.

I shop there from time to time, as they often carry some good used DVD's and Criterions (bought The Rock a few weeks ago).

Thanks for the post, hopefully a MOD will sticky this.

A second Movie Stop is set to open in Midlothian, VA, for those that are in the area. As soon as I get the number and address, I'll post it.

There's on in Chesapeake, VA but I can't find the phone number anywhere, not even on the receipts! Anyway, it's on Greenbrier Pkwy next to Target if you're familiar.

Does anyone know why MovieStop has decided to stop accepting factory sealed trade-ins as used trade-ins?

I took a whole box of new and used movies to trade in recently and they wouldn't accept my sealed movies as "used" anymore. They said an email came down from corporate that they can't accept sealed movies period as used trade-ins. They wouldn't even let me open them there and trade them in. They said I had to leave the property, open them, and come back in a few days to trade them in.

I was more than a little confused and frustrated and just took my box back. MovieStop used to be my favorite store, but with their ever-increasing prices and this bizarre new policy, I won't be spending my money there again. Blah.

they can't accept trade ins that are sealed because you might have stolen them from another store and are attemptin to sell them to the store... it's the same deal with why they need so much info... pawn shop laws and such. it's all theft protection. I work for game stop so we have to do the same thing ^^

Wow, that's not insulting at all.

If MovieStop needs to assume that I'm a criminal, how exactly does my opening a movie off-site and coming back make this trade-in any less "stolen" than it was earlier?

Meh, I guess it really doesn't matter. MovieStop lost my business, and while I know they really don't care about one person, I'll just go back to trading online and shopping at the mom and pop stores.

another one bites the dust

Movie stop just stopped accepting the 4 for 1 trades. I have been going there since they opened. At first it was 3 for 1 on anything that came out recently, then it was 4 for 1 on anything that came out recently, then they made it so you could only do 4 for 1 on stuff that came out that week. Now they stopped doing it all together. The new "deal" is that if you trade in 4 they will give you an extra 4.00 in credit. I went in there today and wanted to get 5 things so I brought in 20 movies. They took my 20 movies and gave me 2 in return and I still owed $1.48. Screw them.

They have never been good at getting in the titles I want. Even when I pre-order them a month in advance they still don't get them in. I have stuff that I pre-ordered a year ago and it's still not in yet. Their computer system is also pitiful. There were lots of movies I brought in from major dvd companies and the system wouldn't take them because they weren't in there. Their prices suck too. And they don't even have a website. What's up with that? Every 10 year old kid in this country has his own website. The only thing that I can say for them is that the people that work there are always nice and helpful and sometimes they have decent sales on used stuff. The good sales will probably end now too since they will have a lot less used stuff coming in. Another thing that always kind of annoyed me is that they let their employees take movies home and watch them then bring them back and reseal them to sell as new. How is it new if it's been used already. It wasn't a big deal except that they would sometimes scratch it up and I get this "new" movie, take it home, and when I open it I see it's got scratches on it.

Anyway, all this adds up to bad business. I'm not going back except to try to get all the stuff I've already traded for. I used to think that movie stop was really cool. You used to be able to get some really good deals there. Now they won't even give you as much as fye. I'm irate. Being a hardcore film collector is very expensive.

Wow, is this true?

I loved the 4 for 1 deal, in fact, I took a ton of DVD's up there, got a ton of credit, and used some of it on the 4 for 1, and the other credit I used on the super cheap used Blu-Ray's they have (Got The Warriors for 17 and some change!).

I had a ton of leftover DVD's I was going to dump there, but wow, that sucks that the deal is dead, as that was one of my only reasons for shopping there!

I guess the extra $4 in credit is ok, for now, since I'm just going to take advantage of the b2g1 free Blu Ray sale I heard about, but man, there is no reason to shop at Moviestop now frequently now that they are killing the deals.

Yeah, sad to see the 4 for 1 over. However I did have some more trades to do, and took in 8 average movies, and got $30 in credit toward Hitman Blu, and Appleseed Blu, so what the hell. At my store it was an extra $5 if you trade 4 toward a reserve.

They have lowered prices on used movies though, I was told. I picked up the Best of He-Man $3, Vampire Effect $5, & Robin B Hood $10 and 10% off that with edge. Also saw other mainstream movies for $3-$5.

Its still my favorite place to buy movies in town, with good employees, selection, and decent prices.

4 for 1 at MovieStop

Hey, they just started a new promotion where you can trade in 4 used DVD's and get a new release for free. Its only for specific titles though, like Jumper, and Vantage Point. It also gets you half off the blu-ray.

Also, My moviestop still gives the extra $5 towards a reserve when you bring in 4 used dvds... its not as good at the old promotion, but it still gives you an extra $5.

Nearly every trade store is like that. When an item is sealed it has a higher chance of being stolen. The more you want in with the more they think you stole them. Just open them up and be done with it.

MS is getting pretty good on trade in values. For 2 weeks after a release, most big releases trade for $12 for dvd, and $20 for Blu-ray.

They (Gamestop, EBGames, Funcoland, Game Crazy etc.) have had this policy in effect for years. I'm shocked it just now bit you.

I don't think so, I was in there yesterday and I think I saw 5...overall. They were in the buy 2 for a dollar thing. BUT I really don't know.

I <3 the DVD in 2.99 and up areas. (All Used)
* I've never had a problem with their used DVDs. Pristine/like mint.

I got:
LOTR 1 for 2.99
LOTR 2 for 2.99
LOTR 3 for 2.99
Spiderman 1 for 2.99
Spiderman 2 for 3.99
Monster for 2.99
Seabiscuit for 3.99
The Fifth Element for 4.50

and some other things I'm too lazy to walk over and find out
