wow..a friend and i who were early adopters of the dvd format were just talking about the old online deals to be had at 800, Reel, BigStar, and Buy..
we would laugh at the people in Best Buy who would be buying stacks of dvd's at 20 bucks a shot

One of my fondest memories of reel.com was that they offered laserdiscs for a short time when lds were getting harder and harder to come by in retail stores. I was able to pick up an LD of THE MATRIX that I later sold for $80

No kidding. I bought my very first DVD at CC in 98. At $25 a pop, I had to find a better deal. This, of course, lead me to find DVDtalk. Aww the memories. :)

I guess it wasn't real wood.

My Toshiba has started giving me pixelation and freezing issues with every disc :(

I knew I shouldn't have posted that comment.

I should have posted about a lottery win or supermodel date instead.....

Ahh, Whoopi and the flooz, and William Shatner and priceline.com.

Find me a 4 star hotel room in New York City on New Years' Eve for 5$.

You can't? Aww darn, I'll take the 15$ to spend at towerrecords.com....

Ok, Whoopi, sure, I'll recommend 5 friends via email to get 5$ more in flooz...

I remember all the "complaining on these forums" when the "rape and pillage" our internet stores until we go bankrupt coupons stated to disappear and were replaced with rather mundane coupons like $15 off $75 etc....

The site was flakey and it took a ton of work to find out which sites paid well since in the beginning your balance only updated ever 2 hours or so, but there were probably 50-100 sites you could click on. The catch was you had to spend the money you earned on one of the sites, then Pointclick would cut you a check.

I made about $1200 in 4 months or so before they dropped their payouts considerably in early 2000. Paid for Christmas '99 and a got me a new TV in the deal as well. Sadly the site went under with $90 still in my account which they encouraged you to spend soon as they were filing Chapter 11 and never paid anyone anything. It only cost me about $60 in the fiasco, but it was stuff I needed anyway so I couldn't complain too much.

Yeah I scored a $1500.00 check for myself and and $725.00 check under my "mom's" account. They also had a huge contest where they gave out $5000.00 GC's to any of their stores but filed chapter 11 while the people were waiting their rebate checks from their shopping sprees.

Ah yes, Reel trivia and Freeride were also two of my favorite; I don't think I paid for a dvd all of 98 and 99.
