My local Walmart is blowing away competition..

I am not sure about other areas of the country, but my local Walmart has been blowing away the competition in this area lately with their dvd prices. This week they had Snakes On A Plane and The Covenant both priced for $13.87 which is the lowest I have seen advertised. The last month or so they have been beating CC, BB, Target and Kmart regularly...

Good for you. This isn't a bargain at all, specially since you didn't even mentioned in what area your local Wal-Mart is located.

Yes he didn't mention where his particular Wal-Mart but I think that everyone here knows that it's always a YMMV situation with Wal-Mart prices. So I took it more as a "you might want to check them out if you're interested in either title" but you apparently have a different view.

BTW - Thanks for the

What I don't understand is Walmart is all owned by one family, why can't they have the same prices everywhere? I have 6 Walmarts in this area and they all have different prices. Some have more competition than others but the one with hardly any competition is the lowest one in the area...Go figure!

I think what dx23 was trying to point out was that the original poster could have listed the specific Wal Mart that he got the great prices at. That way if any dvdtalkers are in that area they could take advantage of the bargain.

It's all about demographics and individual store management. You're not going to see the same price at a store in Beverly Hills, CA as you would in a tiny town in Alabama, simply because it doesn't make any business sense.

This sounds like a Dirty, Dirty Bargain.

Its called competition. In some cases they dont have any. Our Wal-Mart has no competition and they sell NR for $15.87. 25 miles up the road at Wal-Mart, they are $2 cheaper.

True, but then why throw out the "This isn't a bergin at all" if you just wanted to point out that some locational information might be helpful for others. Oh well, I guess that I just hadn't had my coffee before I read it.

I wouldn't step foot into our Wal.Mart, not even for the lowest price on a DVD.

I look forward to the day I don't have to step foot into Walmart again. Problem is, they are the only one of these type stores around (other than K-mart which is really in bad shape). Soon, though, Target is supposed to come to Honolulu. That will be great! However, before that happens I'll be back on the mainland (thank God).

The Walmart near me used to price any "hollywood" release (basically anything that reached a significant number of theaters) plus select few catalog titles (mostly Disney) at $13.87. Was great to pick up any movie I wanted, and always cheaper than elsewhere. Then about a month and a half ago it all stopped. This after pricing that way pretty much since it opened a few years back. Don't know why, especially since a Best Buy and a Target are less than a mile away.

The price of the new releases at Wal-Mart I would always get them at suddenly went up (they were always at least $2 lower). I was talking to the cashier at check out, and mentioned the prices weren't as low as they usually were (I actually needed the BB ad for them to PM), and she said they had a new manager and she didn't like dropping the prices as low. Well, apparently the people in Electronics told her why their sales were down, because they're back to $13.77 for new releases.

My WalMart NEVER has DVDs on sale. Ever.

Major new releases are always $19.97. If (and it's very rare) I buy a DVD there, it is for a free second disc which is usually priced the same as the one disc.

The two Portland Oregon stores I usually go to have big title new releases at $14.87 and many others at $9.96. All of the "Master of Horror" series were at $9.96 each, some for $13.96 in two-packs. Also for some reason the one and two disc editions of "World Trade Center" were the same price of $14.87.

I'm glad your local Wal-Mart is "blowing away competition". Mine just blows.

Also if you look real hard at Walmarts in your area you should be able to find one that sells their new release dvd's with the bonus disk for the same price as the regular release, I recently bought Miami Vice with the bonus pilot episode for $13.87. Most of the Walmarts in my area charge more for the 2 pack but there is always at least one that sells for the same price as the regular release...

Wildo1966,

How about actually sharing the location of the Wal - Mart that you get these deals at?
I think some people who might live in your area might appreciate it.
