DDD sales?

I've only been dealing with DDD for about 1 1/2 years but it seems like they are having more "special" sales.

Ya think they are helping the studios get rid of DVD's since HD is right around the corner?

No.

DDD usually has good specials throughout the year. They just get overshadowed by the 20 Percent sale.

Maybe they have just stepped up the advertising of their sales. I know I sure have received a lot more emails about their sales lately.

I think they're helping the studios realize that pricing non-SE films at $24+ without ever price-dropping may result in disappointing sales.

This thread belongs in the store forum since it's not a specific bargin.

haha, I don't know how many times I need to explain this to people but those who think HD-DVD will replace DVD is totally insane........period!

No ..... simply that prices have been/are generally dropping on catalog titles.

i have a theory!

dvd sales went through the roof during the 2005 holiday season because of all the competition and special sales.

after the holidays, prices went back up and consumers are snubbing their noses at the regular prices. and they figure why not wait it out for the sweet deals to come back.

same time, sellers are longing for the good ole days (of holiday 2005). they almost have to keep the sweet deals coming to keep their sales up.

does this make any sense or am i just babbling?

best buy said starting prices for hd player is $499 and blue-ray will be $999. So it will be at least 4-5 years until we see a reduction in prices and a winner of the two. It's almost the same story with the dvdds, they camout in 1998 @ a huge markup, and were much cheaper in 2002 when I got into it.

This is not a flame....DVD players and discs were released in March of 1997 (hardware national release. software limited to specific test cities by WB).

No one knows specifically when and if there will be a single format, if might end up similar to the video game industry...who knows. Though I certainly wish there wasn't a format war.

One date to keep in mind, as it "may" have some bearing on HD resolution dvd's is Feb of 2009, when the president has declared the cut-off for analog broadcast transmissions. One could assume that there will be many more HD sets after that date. I would also assume that the CE industry will push the high resolution players to match the HD set in the home...just as they did with SD DVD's vs VHS.
