DVDSoon cancelled my orders.
I have been nothing but supportive of DVDSoon on these boards, and have often come to their defense.
But today is that last straw.
I received emails cancelling orders that had been outstanding for over 60 days. This had never happened before.

Dear DVDSoon.com Client,
Your order #xxxxxxxx, dating from , has been automatically cancelled. We were unable to obtain the products within a delay of 60 days.
A DVDSoon.com credit has been issued to your account. You can use this credit to place a new order.
We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.
Thank you for your comprehension.

The reason this angers me, is that I DO NOT mind waiting for product. The items in these orders may not have come in yet, but they are not out of print or rare! Rather, the prices I was charged when first ordered were excellent. For example, The Cat and the Canary Special Edition was 13.13 when I ordered it, but it is still available and listed on the site for order at the higher price of 18.98.
So, the reason I had ordered these products was the excellent prices knowing full well that it may take forever to receive them - I was prepared to wait with no complaints. But for the order to be cancelled without prior notice seems ridiculous. Especially, since I have already pointed out, all the titles I had on order are still available for order on the site.
End of rant.
Anyone else get this email?
EDIT - I see nothing in their "Terms of Use" agreement, that says items on order for longer than 60 days will be cancelled.

I only tried ordering from there once before, for an OOP title that they claimed to have. Obviously they didn't have it, but it took awhile before they finally sent an email saying as much.
Why do people still shop there?

It seems obvious that they want to get rid of all orders that were placed when they had free shipping and lower prices.
It should not be so hard to obtain titles like The Machinist, Casino, A Dirty Shame etc...that are still in my backorder list.
Here in the Netherlands DVDSLOW had a large group of customers that are getting very angry about the whole situation and are looking for other online shops.
It would not surprise me if DVDSLOW went bankrupt soon...

Same email here. I've send them this reply:
Hello,
This mail is the last straw for me!
I was already very upset with you changing the rules about free shipping for Fidelity iCard holders (which was a fraudulent act in my opinion). And now you cancel an order that's still commonly available, and can still be purchased from your website.
Unless you re-instate my order, I will never ever buy from your store again and I will have my lawyer look into this matter.
PS. For your information: you're losing a *LOT* of customers at the moment with this action.

Probably a good thing in case they are going under. From my experience I don't think they mainatin an inventory anyway.
BTW, your threat of losing business does far more than your threat of a laywer who would have no way of suing. You should have simply let them know you would be posting this for the public to view.

Their loyal European customers are also really p***ed off about the current situation.
We were ready to wait for a long time for a good bargain. We swallowed all the iFidelity Card "tweakings" that were to our disadvantage, but this, cancelling orders without asking if the customer is willing to wait even more than 60 days is too much to take. If you can't trust your orders to be fullfilled at all, who is then willing to pay upfront ?
I just wanted to join in and show that you are not alone in your anger. Just look here.

I have not ordered from them for two months and except for one order it's been four months. Their prices have mostly sucked for quite awhile now. But fortunately I have received everything I ordered during the great deal times.
I keep checking in daily and the prices are not coming down. I wonder if they're going to keep it like this until Fidelity members' first year memberships are up and they no longer have to give us those bigger discounts.
Oh well, I had a great six months of fantastic deals which are very hard to come by these days.

This is very troubling and not a good way to start off my day. I've never had issue with the way DVDSOON went about their business; I understood the trade-off: good prices but a long wait. I'm now just a couple of days away from this 60 day limit (and this was for new releases) and if they send me a cancellation I will never shop with them again. I just got off the phone with them and I didn't get much of a sense that I had any hope of receiving my order. Okay, so they will issue me a credit to my DVDSOON account which I can convert to a refund to my card - supposedly..........can they handle refunds to a large number of customers (if that indeed is the case).
If things do take a turn for the worse, I hope Geoff nukes any trace of promoting them on this site.

Nothing is going to convince me to give them any more of my money ever again.

I guess I've been incredibly lucky since I was getting all my preorders in a timely manner (the Saturday after release date has been about the latest for anything) and I got the last of my pending orders (Dirty Mary Crazy Larry) on Saturday July 2. So I had nothing left to be cancelled. I have gotten about 50 items from them since December 27, 2004. Even including the $49.98CAD I paid for the Fidelity Card I got a discount of about 47% off of U.S. list prices overall.
Still, they have not done anything good for their customers in about two months and every change has been a takeback.
They have always done a good business outside of North America (better than in the U.S. where their competitive edge was not as great) where people shopping for Region 1 DVDs took advantage of the free shipping, the good prices and the Fidelity Card. These people are up in arms. For them, DVD Soon has gone from great to pariah in a couple months.
I really do have to wonder if they are in financial trouble. After all, they were giving away the store with 25% and 20% discounts, followed by 10% coupons that could be combined with Fidelity discounts (another 10%-20%) for awhile. All on top of very good prices to begin with and free shipping.
I suppose they are trying to recoup some of the losses but, of course, they are destroying their customer base.

Same thing happened to me for Twilight Zone definitive Season 1.
They cancelled my order, yet still list it on their site - only the price on the site is now $25 more than my original order was for.
To say I'm pissed would be understating things.

Anyone else having trouble logging in to DVDSOON.COM now? I haven't forgotten my password, and even had it sent to me to be sure it hadn't changed. I've got 2 items which I can no longer check the status of, both of which are just past the 60 day limit. 2 other items were sent from the same order. I wonder if that's why these 2 haven't been cancelled yet? Maybe it's only orders in which none of the items have shipped which get cancelled after 60 days?

Well, for some reason, I can now log into my account again. And, to my surprise, one more of my items shipped today. It was ordered on May 12th, so it crept past the 60 day cancellation. I do still have one more disc from that order which hasn't been shipped, but also hasn't been cancelled. Hopefully it'll make it!

Stupidly, I ordered a rather big order from DVDSoon instead of DDD during their 20% discount. After three weeks, and not having one title ship, I cancelled the order. Now it is going to take me three weeks to get the amount back on Visa.
I hate DVDsoon. It is my own fault for taking a chance on them though.

After reading this thread, I heard enough, and took action on my open order! On June 28th, I ordered eight mainstream DVDs. My credit card was charged the same day. For the last 22 days, I've waited for something good to happen. After reading this thread, I decided to call DVDSlow to ask about my order. The CSR said all items were not in their inventory and were "on order." I found this hard to believe since two of the DVDs were Disney titles. I did not argue with the CSR. I stayed calm. After the phone call, I went to the DVDSlow website and cancelled my order. Life is too short to wait endlessly for these DVDs to arrive. Can anyone help me with these questions:
Does it actually take 21 days to receive a credit card refund from DVDSlow?
Are these 21 days calendar days or 21 workdays?
Instead of waiting the 21 days, should I instead dispute the charge with my credit card company?
Do I loose my rights to dispute the charge with my credit card company if I wait another 21 days to complain? Since it has already been 23 days since DVDSlow charged my credit card, and another 21 days of waiting will make it 44 days before the complaint to the credit card company (if necessary). Since there is a 30-day limitation on filing credit card complaints, what should I do? Is DVDSlow reliable to process this refund? Or are they on the verge of bankruptcy? What would you do...wait for the refund or "panic" and call the credit card company immediately?
When I placed this order on June 28th, CitiBank charged me a 3% transaction fee for the foreign currency transaction ($U.S. to CAD). Does anyone know if this transaction fee will be refunded when DVDSlow processes my credit card refund?
Thanks in advance for sharing any information regarding the preceding concerns! :-(

I doubt you will get the transaction fee refunded, and because of the daily change in currency, you will probably get less than you paid (less the trans fee) ..I think you need to specifically ASK dvdsoon for the refund to the CC, it's not automatic...
