Great Movie Gallery/Hollywood Video news!!!

Hollywood Video shareholders have approved the merger with
Movie Gallery. Which basically means we can expect to see the
GREAT "Buy 2 Get 2 Free" sales at your friendly Hollywood Video
(soon to be Movie Gallery) stores very soon.

So all of the Hollywood Video's will be converted to Movie Gallery's? If so, how long will this conversion take?

All Hollywood Video stores will eventually become Movie Gallery stores with name change and all.

I don't think so. It will be operating only as a subsidiary.

I don't want to argue the point but believe me I know what I'm talking about. They (Movie Gallery)will eventually change all of the Hollywood Video stores to Movie Gallery stores. It may not happen this year but eventually with time it will. Now in locations where there are both (not many) within a short distance of each other I would expect to see the larger (square footage wise) store closed. That is one of the reasons why the Blockbuster deal fell through. There were way too many Blockbusters located within walking distances from Hollywood Video stores. Just my 2 cents.

How do you know it won't go the other way and all the stores will just start doing 3/$30 sales instead?

I talked to a GM (does business with our company)with Movie Gallery this evening and he said that the plans are to implement their pricing policy. The name change from Hollywood Video to Movie Gallery will most likely occur in 2006.

Hollywood is going to stay Hollywood. This is coming from the top of the company. Movie Gallery will also NOT put porn in Hollywood's. This is coming from the top of the company.

Not put porn in? Wow, looks like they aren't in the business of making money then.

Wonder how this will effect the Game Crazy stores located in 70% of them.

I wouldn't think anything will change in the short term. They've maintained that Hollywood Video will still retain it's branding and brought in as a subsidiary. If it's still profitable, they'll probably maintain the status quo.

I don't know about in the rest of the nation, but around here, whenever you see a Hollywood Video, the outside always looks run down and decrepit. I passed by one the other day and I thought, "Looks like that Hollywood closed down," but on my return trip I passed it again and realized it was open and people were inside (just some employees, as I didn't see any other cars in the parking lot that might be a customer). I hope Movie Gallery is ready to pump some money to give Hollywood a make over, because (at least in this area) they need it BAD.
