has anyone bought DVDs from Amazon since they got rid of the STL program?

my final STL order (Twilight Zone Season 2) is shipping tomorrow ^_^

just wondering cause I haven't bought any DVDs from Amazon since then

Spanky BananaPants 03-28-05 02:49 PM

I've purchased a few from Amazon UK (they have yet to arrive), but nothing from the US Amazon. DDD or Best Buy generally get my money.

tonyc3742 03-28-05 03:11 PM

Nope.
I used to at least check Amazon, now I don't even bother.

marty888 03-28-05 03:30 PM

Already received the last of my STL pre-orders, and haven't bought a thing from them since they did away with the program.

Laser Movies 03-28-05 03:32 PM

I placed one DVD order since STL stopped but that was because I had a $10 promotional GC to use. I will still order from Amazon if they have a sale, or the best price. But overall the amount of orders I place will dramatically be fewer since STL is no longer an option, and coupons no longer exist.

Dabaomb 03-28-05 03:33 PM

I bought that 18-movie Warner Bros. Best Picture set set from Amazon. Their customer service was great cuz the set included the non-SE versions of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest & Casablanca even though they were advertised as the SE versions. Amazon sent me the SE versions and had me send back the non-SE versions.

Zodo 03-28-05 05:01 PM

Nope, don't think I've bought a single DVD from them since they did away with STL.

I've love to see some numbers on how many people have stopped purchasing from them. Maybe they'll wake up after some execs see THOSE numbers.

calhoun07 03-28-05 06:07 PM

Not very many, but sometimes they still have good prices. But it wasn't STL that completely turned me away from them, it was their 89.99 per year "premium membership" or whatever it was. Ever since then, they have been raising prices across the board. They are just losing a competitive edge that helped them get in the plus side by getting rid of all the promo items that got customers to shop with them.

pilot 03-28-05 06:39 PM

nope..I just applied the GC or two I had to an existing order (that I had placed with STL in Dec or Jan) which just shipped today..haven't purchased since..

Shagrath 03-28-05 07:07 PM

Nope. And I probably won't again.

l_xtopher_l 03-28-05 07:57 PM

Purchased 2 Criterions from the Marketplace, because the prices were so great on them, but nothing direct from Amazon, and won't again, since they're rarely the lowest price, and offer no coupons, and no rewards, other than free shipping on $25 or more, while DDD has great prices and free shipping. Usually I just catch the lowest price at Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, or Wal-Mart on the first week out.

illennium 03-28-05 08:12 PM

I still use Amazon, though not nearly as much. In 2004, I bought over 40 boxsets from Amazon. This year, I expect that number will be closer to 10.

Ahab 03-28-05 08:34 PM

I'm buying more than ever from amazon. Probably my favorite online dvd source. They've always given me great service.

MJG87 03-28-05 09:17 PM

No DVDs, CDs though

Dabaomb 03-28-05 09:51 PM

Oh yeah, I bought that Rick Steve's PBS Europe 6-DVD set....I have no idea why other than cuz it was cheap....I guess it could be usefull if I ever go to Europe.

LasVegasMichael 03-28-05 11:06 PM

Absolutely not, and never will again (or until they bring back the program), and I sent an e-mail to them letting them know this. DDD or DVDPL for me.

JCFantasy23 03-29-05 06:00 AM

I don't order from amazon that much anyway. The last time I did was for four books. I would have ordered just 2, but added 2 more for the free shipping, and because I needed them anyway.

I hate the share the love is gone because once I learned about it used it for the Monster Legacy collection. Otherwise I would have gone with another DVD company.

Easy 03-29-05 08:40 AM

Not yet but I will soon... $150 on promo GCs. Gotta see about changing that rewards program.

reverie 03-29-05 09:09 AM

Once, right after it was gone (I was looking for STL on something right when it went away). Since then, I've looked at the site once, and unless someone posts a really great deal here, I probably won't be back there again anytime soon.

Geofferson 03-29-05 09:41 AM

I've purchased 1 or 2, but most of my DVD purchases go to DDD or Overstock.

fryinpan1 03-29-05 09:50 AM

I purchased one DVD from the marketplace, but nothing from Amazon.com.

dollfins1 03-29-05 09:54 AM

no dvds but i did buy a dvd player lol

rexinnih 03-29-05 10:39 AM

Come to think of it,nope.

Chew 03-29-05 10:51 AM

Books, yes. DVDs, no.

Kevin M. Dean 03-29-05 04:42 PM

Sure... it' called comparison shopping. No one store has the cheapest price. I always manage to have some at Amazon and some at others like DDD and DVD Empire.

victant 03-29-05 04:46 PM

I love Amazon's customer service, which makes me a loyal customer. However, with the difference now without STL at about 15% or so, my purchases have been going to DDDVD.

WarriorPrincess 04-08-05 06:52 PM

Nope. Even cancelled orders and just bought them at B&M stores (bambi, incredibles, mary poppins 40th). I even cancelled Harry Potter - there will be so many good offers on this one I figure why worry about finding another item to bring the total over $25 to get free shipping. I'll just go elsewhere - if of course they were the cheapest option, and I was able to get free shipping, I'd still go back. Stopping STL and gold box deals (not that the gold box ever had deals I wanted) were BAD moves.

onebyone 04-08-05 08:03 PM

I haven't gotten anything there since they stopped the gold box and share the love. They are a good business, but without the discount, their prices get beat all over town. Plus, I miss the whole sharing love with friends aspect. Oh well. Their loss is another's gain.

Shap 04-09-05 11:08 AM

Nope. I'm canceling my Amazon credit card too once I get to 2500 points (only need to charge about $50 more). I usually buy from the store/site with the lowest price, and without STL and other promotions, Amazon is almost never the lowest anymore. DDD or DVDSoon for me.

Josh H 04-09-05 11:46 AM

No, but I never used STL either. Too much hassle for me and 10% off their prices was rarely much (if any) better than Best Buy on big mainstream releases (which is mostly what I buy).

me too, i am cancelling it next week as soon as the GC comes in, i did order lost (had $37 left on GC) from them but if it is cheaper anywhere else i will cancel it.

cupon 04-09-05 02:59 PM

Just one. I used to have at least 4-5 monthly orders in the queue which I would never have considered buying were it not for STL. Part of me is grateful to amazon for helping me conserve my excessive DVD spending. There's no telling how much money I would have wasted had STL remained active.

Dabaomb 04-09-05 04:02 PM

the only reason that I'm still really buying from them is cuz I have Borders gift cards from Christmas that I have to use

Ginwen 04-11-05 01:24 PM

Kagemusha, but only because I had a $25 certificate.

I'll still buy there if by some miracle they have the best price. Since I pay tax at Amazon that's pretty unlikely, but it could happen.

bdots48 04-11-05 01:54 PM

Only the $20 Pee Wee's Playhouse boxes.

Geofferson 04-11-05 03:42 PM

I very rarely visit Amazon anymore. I bought a couple since STL fizzled, but Amazon very rarely gets my business anymore (at least for DVDs).

ernestrp 04-11-05 07:11 PM

I pre-order 2 WB box sets but cancelled them when DDD had the WB box set sale. I placed an order for the WB noir set 2 with amazon but will cancel it if a better deal comes along before then.

Same here. Since STL ended, I've only placed two orders with Amazon: the Pee-wee's Playhouse box sets (sale) and a preorder of Warner's Doris Day Collection (lowest online price + expiring $10 coupon.)

Ditto.

D-Ball 04-12-05 01:14 AM

I haven't ordered anything since they dropped STL. I have a Borders GC that I will use up, but beyond that, I don't see myself shopping for DVDs there anymore.
