Amazon Visa Card Question

Hello. I got a mailing for an amazon visa card yesterday and wanted to ask you guys if anyone has one? I was thinking about getting it strictly for amazon/dvd purchases. Any suggestions/thoughts? ($30 amazon cert w/ 1st purchase)
Thanks in advance!

If you often shop at Amazon, it's good deal. You get 3 points per dollar spent at Amazon, and 1 point per $1 elsewhere.

When you acrue 2,500 points, you get a $25 reward certificate which is essentually a gift certificate that you can use at Amazon.

The $30 promotional credit is a nice incentive to get you sign up :)

I have one, and I like it. In about 6 months, I've already earned one gift certificate, and another one should show up soon. The $30 off first purchase was nice, and mine also came with no interest for the first year.

only time I don't use it is at Sams club because they don't take visa
I buy a lot at amazon. no sales tax (f*** NY) and free shipping on stuff over $25 and the free shipping is usually only 1 day slower than the paid for shipping. and amazon sells just about everything now either directly or through the affiliates and the gcs are good with the affiliates since you pay amazon and amazon pays them

how long does it take for approval/denial if you don't get an instant responce when you apply?

As others have said it can be a good deal. OTOH, I have never had a bank that sent me so many, well ... I'd have to call them scams. Cash this $5 check and get enrolled in some BS thing ... a "buying club" or unnecessary insurance or something equally useless (but profitable for them).
Don't get me wrong, I use the card all the time but I use banks who aren't always sending me questionable junk for everything else.

true
although I once had one that had telemarters call me to sign up for all sorts of crap and sometimes signed me up without permission. I canceled them because of that shit

I didn't get an instant approval, and about 4-5 weeks later, a form showed up in the mail requesting that I send them proof of address to verify my identity (utility bill with my name on it was requested, I used my DirecTV bill.) It was another couple weeks after that before my card showed up.

I got instant approval when I did it about a year ago. I ended up using it and getting a $25 giftcard that I spent on who-knows-what

ChrisHicks 12-10-04 03:36 PM

one thing about the instant approval, it sucks that you don't know what your credit limit is. I applied and was approved in about 2min. on Tuesday but I have no idea what my limit is.

another thing, can you do online payments with this card? if so, could someone provide me with the web address?

I have had one for about a year now and am inching pretty close to 2,500 points.

Laser Movies 12-13-04 01:56 PM

I've had my Amazon Visa for a few years now and never had a problem with it. Usually when I earn the 2500 points for a GC I get them a few days after my statement arrives. I also use it for most purchases which helps the points add up quicker, and if you buy anything through Amazon Marketplace it is eligible for triple points like a regular Amazon purchase.

I've had my card for a few years now, too. I use it for pretty much all my purchases. I've received many (50+) GC's since then, and the whole process goes very smoothly. Very good deal, especially if you take advantage of Amazon's free shipping (over $25), no tax (for us lucky ones), and the occasional STL promo.

Also, thanks for the heads up on the Amazon Marketplace info. After all these years, I guess there's still a lot I don't know!! ;)

Can someone explain this part to me?
0% APR for 6 months on purchases and balance transfers, low variable rate thereafter, currently 13.74%.

So after 6 months, i will be charged 13.74% interest per transaction?

atari2600 12-18-04 03:31 AM

great card...approved pretty quickly. use it on nearly all my expenses and bills (the ones that accept visa, such as my cel phone bills)...already received 4 $25 GC and willl get another in a month.

Hobgoblin 12-18-04 07:36 AM

Already received one $25 GC and used it to get ROTK:EE for free. I use only this card now for all my purchases in order to accrue points. If only I could pay my rent with this card instead of sending in a check, I would accrue points very quickly.

atari2600 12-18-04 11:40 AM

yeah, paying rent with this would be great!

If you don't pay your bill in full every month, you will pay that interest rate on the outstanding balance. Pay your bill in full every month and you'll never have to worry about it.

I love my Amazon card - I recently bought the Criterion Collection Box Set Edition of Fanny & Alexander for $19 (redeemed a $25 GC) - hooray!

seisui 12-24-04 04:41 PM

How can you check the balance of the points you've earned? Is it included in the statement since I haven't gotten my first statement yet.

Points should be included on your monthly statement.

atari2600 12-24-04 06:28 PM

they are included.

abintra 12-25-04 12:29 AM

How often can one sign up for this and receive the initial GC? I signed up once in the past but cancelled it.

silentbob007 12-26-04 05:59 PM

I like this card since you can buy just about anything at Amazon.com these days :) ....
