Got the rest of mine today. I'm hoping this was an isolated incident and not the start of a new trend.

So what is exactly the consensus here, do most people prefer Netflix, or just waiting until their time is up so that they can drop it? I am interested but do not know of anyone that has it. I am usually the type that prefers hearing from an existing customer before using a service.

Netflix has been delaying all my shipments for a day and Im not watching anymore than I used to. i hope this wont continue.

I've done the cancel/renew dance with Netflix three times so far and it doesn't seem to change this basic pattern. For the first 3-4 weeks, I get virtually every new release (including HD discs) the next business day after I put it at the top of my queue. Then after about a month of moderate use (maybe 5 discs a week on the 3-out plan), I begin to notice signs of throttling. My top picks are wait-listed, returns aren't acknowledged for an entire business day, discs no longer get to me in one day and I start to see some discs mailed to me from Hawaii etc. But at a minimum, I always seem to get three new discs each week and for me this is worth the $17/month.

mndtrp 10-08-07 04:27 AM

I received an unplayable disc, and the replacement was unplayable as well. Thinking that a little strange, I did some research online, and found out that there was a defective pressing, and all of the discs were recalled.

I called Netflix to let them know, so that they would hopefully pull the discs out of their centers. The customer service rep thanked me, and said she would pass the info on to her supervisor. She then comped me my next month subscription ($36 for 6 at a time), and gave me a bonus rental.

Very cool of them, and my service has been fine. They will occasionally wait a day to ship out a disc, but it isn't very often. I've been with Netflix for a few years now.

What was the disc?

Just curious....what are the Availability Status for Blu-Ray movies? I just switched to Blockbuster ONLINE only (no trade in) and all the Blu-Ray/HD stuff seems to be Long Wait.

I'm just curious if I should switch to Netflix after this month.

Also, for those in MICHIGAN, what is the ship time generally? With Blockbuster, I get regular DVD's the day after they ship, but BD/HD seem to take 2-3 days.

Here are a few examples:
Transformers [HD] Long Wait

Hostel Part II [Blu-Ray]Very Long Wait

Reaping [Blu-Ray]Coming Soon

Reaping [HD]Very Long Wait

Lookout [Blu-Ray]Very Long Wait

Condemned [Blu-Ray]Very Long Wait

Next [HD]Short Wait

Return To House On Haunted Hill [Blu-Ray]Coming Soon

Host [Blu-Ray]Short Wait

Perfect Stranger [Blu-Ray]Long Wait

Contract [HD]Long Wait

Any opinions about whether Netflix has pulled back on their "throttling" tactics since Blockbuster Online has become so popular? I've been able to rent up to 15 dvds in one week lately (all catalogue titles) which has not happened before.

mndtrp 10-30-07 02:52 AM

I haven't had any trouble with throttling in several months. As soon as a disc is marked returned, my next disc is shipped out.

MisterBill2 11-04-07 08:51 PM

Question: I want to get Ratatouille shipped tomorrow (I know from past experiences that new Tuesday releases ship on Monday). I have a bonus rental available. If I redeem it now, will they wait until tomorrow morning to select my next movie? Or will they select something now (and if they do, does the system think that it is available as they would tomorrow)? I should probably just wait until the morning to redeem it.

MisterBill2 11-05-07 07:52 PM

So, the answer is, I released a bonus rental around 9am eastern and Ratatouille is shipping tomorrow. Not sure why it did not ship today, but I can live with a one day delay. I forgot to check earlier to see if they originally had it scheduled to ship today but it slipped.

EdTheRipper 11-05-07 09:04 PM

Usually a bonus rental will ship the next business day regardless of what time you decide to use it. At least that's been my experience.

EdTheRipper 11-09-07 04:06 PM

Seems like my shipments have slowed considerably. I was supposed to have 3 arrive on the 7th and received none until the next day. I was expecting three today and only received one. Most of them are shipping locally so I'm a bit disappointed in the sudden delays.

I've been getting consistently good service from NF. Monday discs go in the mail. Tuesday marked received, Wednesday new set of discs. They have been giving me discs marked wait on the queue. It's been this way for months.

Just out of curiosity, did anyone have any activity on their Netflix account on Friday? I had some discs that should have been received by them, but nothing showed. I wasn't sure if they were off for the day after Thanksgiving or not.

TheMovieman 11-24-07 10:46 AM

Mine's been fine. I send one back to them and another is usually in my mailbox in 2 days.

I had 5 check in and 5 ship out yesterday. All arrived today with no issues.

Well, maybe the throttling has started for me then. This is the first time in months that my discs haven't shown up at their center the day after (not counting Thanksgiving Day) that I sent them.

Possibly, although on my account, which I find to be throttled but made an attempt to resolve it yet, I had some that were accepted Friday that I received today.

It is also possible that your USPS employee decided to knock off a little early on Wednesday, meaning Netflix may not have received it Friday...? I've had issues with USPS laziness since my "regular" carrier was moved off my route a couple months ago - it hasn't been the same since!

EdTheRipper 11-27-07 01:58 PM

This is strange....
Netflix received 5 titles from me today. Shortly thereafter, 4 were selected for processing with a 5 still expected to ship today. A few hours later, I check the site and find that they're only shipping two today and expect to ship the other 3 by tomorrow. Now, the weird part is the movies that were processing weren't dropped back to my queue....they just vanished. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

EDIT...and 30 minutes later, they're back into the processing stage and are expected to ship today. Strange.

Netflix service has been absolutely horrible for me this week. I had one movie get back to them yesterday and 2 that got back to them today. I didnt get any of the 3 new releases i had at the top of my queue and none of the movies i am am going to be shipped have been shipped to me yet.

aJOHNymous 11-27-07 03:26 PM

"We are Marshall" sat at the top of my queue in "Very Long Wait" from the day it was released until last Sunday when I removed it and drove to Family Video to rent it.

I have NEVER had a movie sit in that status for so long.

Also, "Commando" has been in "Very Long Wait" for me for the past 2 months until yesterday when it shipped out of the blue. Fuckin' "Commando." Is there really that great of a demand for that movie right now?

EdTheRipper 11-27-07 03:48 PM

I have about 15 or 16 movies at the top of my queue that are listed as "Very Long Wait". Most of them have been that way since the release date. Also, most of them are cheesy DTV horror/sci-fi titles so I'm kind of surprised that they'd stay that way for as long as they have.

I've come across this when a movie was discontinued or upgraded. Rarely do I have a movie sit in long wait for very long.
