Blockbuster Video PV DVD 2 For $20 Sale Going Bye-Bye

Nothing lasts forever. I was in Blockbuster Video today, and they told me that the 2 for $20 PV DVD sale that appeared to be their standard sale is going away at the end of this year. They will continue to have sales from time to time as they did in the past, but there will be times where nothing will be on sale. Oh well, hello Hollywood Video.....

That doesn't make much sense. They can't get rid of all the PVD titles they have now plus all of the trades they just took in. I recently saw tables at a few stores with PVDs priced at $7.99.

That's how you know it's Blockbuster.

Wait, it gets better.

According to a store manager near me, they are changing the pricing on PVDs. They will now be between $2.99-9.99. I saw 2.99, 4.99, 6.99 and 9.99 stickers while I was there. They've already started restickering in all the stores in my area and I picked up a ton. I got 50 First Dates, Butterfly Effect, and The Punisher for $4.99 and Mighty Wind for $2.99! The $2.99 stickers seem limited to stuff that certain stores may have that's overstock.

Hollywood Video recently went to a similar pricing pattern on PVDs, and they've maintained 3/$20 for PVDs stickered at under $10 for months now. I haven't bought a PVD at blockbuster since like mid-summer because 2/$20 was just not competitive anymore. Looks like BBV has finally figured it out.

I wonder what this means for their grand plans to become a used dvd trading store, margins are rapidly receding.

Wow. That is a whole lot better than 2 4 20. I used to be in a BBV at least a couple times a week to check out their sales. Because prices weren't low enough and the stupid stuff you gotta put up with (stickers on the DVD, crappy cases, no inserts) I haven't been in one in about a year.

Were they just the discs in those crappy Blockbuster cases? Or did they come in the whole set with the box and everything?

In the face of sharp declines in its core over-the-counter rental business, Blockbuster Video is making overtures to acquire its number one rival Hollywood Video.

I can verify this to be true. Blockbuster Video will now have a
a new PVD pricing scale starting at $2.99 and no higher than $9.99.

I was at a BBV during lunchtime today, and they were pulling all of the previewed DVD's off the shelf. Didn't ask why, but I would guess it was to re-price for the new price structure.

I think some stores have already been doing this on a trial basis. When I was on vacation in Hilton Head this spring, I was in a store where prices were radically different from the stores in my area. I picked up Daredevil for $6.99, it was priced at $12.99 locally. I noticed that most of the $14.99 DVDs were $9.99 at this store, $9.99 were $6.99, etc. It was almost like they were having a buy 2 get 1 free sale all the time, when you compared their prices with my local stores. (Daredevil was an even better deal). I didn't see any at $2.99, but there were quite a few at $4.99.

Why was this moved???

Odd that this thread was moved. The title seems like news we bargain hunters need to see. And the new pricing at BBV seems like a definite bargain item. Glad I caught this in the Bargain Forum before it was moved or I would not have seen it.

I don't understand it either. It sounds like a DVD bargain post to me, oh well.

The store in Burbank just told me that they will be restarting the 3 for $25 in a week or so.
