Question about 2 Amazon orders....

Ok, I have a preorder for the Star Wars set that comes out at the end of the month. I also just placed a different order for a CD that comes out on that same day, and another DVD that is already out. Could I contact Amazon and ask them to combine orders? It would save them money on shipping so I can't see how it would not beneficial for them to not combine them, unless they are from different distribution centers.

Unless you are seeking to get over the $25 free ship threshold, I would suggest not to combine orders. Combining orders could lead to missing STL, promotional coupon, GC, especially when they have expired. You might not lose them when you combine orders, but save yourself hassle just in case.

I once combined 2 orders and lost a promotional coupon, then the sucker decided to ship the items in separate packages anyway.

well, i had 10 dollars in GC applied to one order of a cd and dvd, and STL on the Star Wars box set. If they tell me i'm losing any of that, screw it. Both orders ship for free, so it's not a big deal.

Amazon has certain restrictions on combining orders. For instance, they don't allow it if you use free shipping. It doesn't make much sense, but if I were you, I would just leave it as it is. It will cost them more, but they seem to prefer it that way.

I would suggest to leave the two orders as is. There is no advantage to combine them since both ship free anyway.

What's the advantage for you if you combine? In addition to the concerns already mentioned, if it's all one big order and any one item is not immediately available, that could hold up the entire order.

I had 2 orders that I tried to combine but since the one used the supersaver shipping, I couldn't.

Less PITA for me. I live in apartment complex, and they never notify me when I have a package. One less thing to worry about.

I emailed Amazon about, and they tell me I can combine and get free shipping. I have to change the shipping option on one of them, but I may lose the GC's I've applied.

Screw it. It's not worth the hassle trying to save Amazon some money. :)

In the past there was a loophole at Amazon that allowed you to combine free shipping orders if you changed the shipping from free to paid, and edit it back to free again. But Amazon has fixed their website to prevent combining orders that initially have free shipping. Even editing shipping will not make a difference. The only way to combine an order is to choose paid shipping first. However, you can edit a combined order to free shipping later. Like everyone else says there is not much sense altering the orders if they are both shipping free anyway.

I always thought that was a bug they would eventually clear up. I tried many times to switch from free to paid back to free, but it never worked. I always choose paid shipping for pre-orders and combine them later with free shipping one day before amazon locks the orders that are "preparing" to ship.
